OK, But I have to put some thought into it. Any cigar 1-5, LE or whatever... the top 5 can be any CC.

Hey and WOA, don't think that you are exempt from this assignment either. Just because you started this thread does not mean you own it.

Without some fundament backup to your picks here, the top 5’s listed are nothing more than personal favorites, which is completely subjective and doesn’t merit the title “cigar of the decade” As to the RE’s or LE’s, some are great cigars of course, what will their impact be 10-20 years from now. Sure, they will gain some collectible value, but those cigars are going to be localized to a limited number of smokers and budgets, very similar to the Davidoffs and Dunhills today. The will have little impact on a cigar smokers overall.
I think I am going to smoke my Cohiba Esplendido before I do my assignment. I had a couple a year ago and wasn't really impressed that much, although I did like it very much. But after reading all the raves about it and a little aging, I'm going to give it another try to see if it moves up my list. That's why these boards are so great.
So far the Cohiba Pyramid 2006 LE has the most votes in the top 5.

That's the spirit. See Elaw this could work out much better than you expected.

Well, I went back to work. The Esplendido just moved way up the chart. They must have gotten a whole lot better since my last time.
1) Cohiba Pyramid 2006 LE (aged) 2) Cohiba Esplendidos (A stronger version of the Por Larranga Magnifico 3) Por Larranga Magnifico LE 4) Montecristo Petite Edmundo 5) Sancho Panza Bellicoso

Cigars change with time. Palates develop with time (hopefully). One's favorite cigars, quite likely, change over time.
Osnat45 hit it on the head.
It depends what you've eaten. what you are drinking, the "stage" your cigar is in.
I may have 25 different cigars on hand and one night be blown away only to find the same the next night. Or, I may pick one that I think will be great but it's not quite there yet.
Still, a list, without a whole lot of thought:
Bolivar Royal Corona RASS Diplomaticos No. 2 Cohiba Siglo II, III, IV & the Robusto (Is that cheating?) MC4
And, I've had some great ERDM Choix Supremes and Romeo Ex. No. 4's as well....
Any given night it can be any of the amazing cigars on hand if the are "on".

is it my favourite cigar in each of my favourite vitola. Of course ELs are going to be good, but I like to pick the diamonds in the mud Sometimes a good regular production cigar can be as good if not better than ELs. Sometimes young PSD4s amaze me. I have fallen in love with SLR A .

I've been kicking this topic around in the back of my mind for a couple of days, and struggling with it a bit for a couple of reasons:
- I didn't make many purchases of '01/'02 cigars because of construction issues. Things really struck me as hit or miss - some narrower cigars were fine, and some were dowels (some of which have loosened up significantly with age). I had a box of '01 Upmann Monarcas that were about 80% plugged. There's no excuse for that.
- I'm a big believer in giving most cigars at least 3-4 years of age before I pass judgment on them.
So my frame of reference for "favorites" of the decade would really be limited to the 2003-2005 production timeframe.
Because of these qualifications, my top five list is based largely on the potential I see in cigars that I've tried from the last few years.
2006 RyJ Short Churchill - I sampled a couple of these when they were first released, and was very impressed by their strength, woodiness and ripe fruit notes. They may be destined to be classics in a couple of years.
2003 Cohiba Siglo IV - Somewhere about halfway through it tasted like s'mores. Nuff said.
2005 Cohiba Lancero - I sampled one late last year that was terrific ("Ice cream sandwich dragged through honey," was one of the notes in a review I wrote of it) but with plenty of room for improvement.
2007 H. Upmann Mag 46 - Another one that is all about potential. Lots of youth to them, but I'm really looking forward to smoking the bulk of them circa 2012, as the tobacco/almond flavors they showed were already developing nicely.
2002 Punch Ninfas - Just darn good. I'm sorry they're not making them any longer.
I'm sure that if I thought about it long enough, I could come up with a whole different list, as there are some great cigars, or cigars with great potential that I didn't mention. But for now, this is it.

Re the Lancero comment, all I can say is I am now so Jones-ing to drag an ice cream bar through honey. Per the '07 Mag 46s, just smoked one last night and agree they are very flavorful. Interestingly enough, it put me in mind of something from the Cohiba Siglio line, call it a Siglio III.5. I've been aging a small box 2004 Mag 46s and have been fighting off the urge to see how the beauties are coming along just yet.
