I don't think I have seen this subject yet. It would be interesting to see what everybody says is their favorite top 5 since 2000.
I haven't had a very wide variety compared to many of you so I will look forward to your top 5s!

1) Cohiba Pyramid 2006 LE (aged)
2) Por Larranga Magnifico LE
3) Montecristo Petite Edmundo
4) Sancho Panza Bellicoso
5) Cohiba Esplendidos & Siglo 3 (tie)

I liked almost everything. I can name you the few I didn't like and returned.

Sancho Panza Bellicoso
Upmann Magnum 50
San Cristobal Murallas
Juan Lopez no.2
Trinidad Robusto Extra.

These cigars I didn't like are totally personal. Nothing wrong with them.
Just to give you an idea of what I really like.
Bolivar GM, Royal Coronas, Petit Coronas
Cohiba Robusto, Siglo VI, Esplendidos
Monte 2's and 4's
HDM double corona
punch punch.
These are some cigars that came to my mind rightaway when you asked the question.

Keep 'em coming guys(and gals). We had a nice thread on the non-cuban side with best/favorite NC's. I found alot of new favorites from there.

I'm sure its somewhere, but any time you guys want to start a new Favorite Cubans thread with readily obtainable smokes, I'll be extremely happy as I'm running low.

ccsigloIII, Yeah, I loved those Cohiba A's. I had 10 of them. I gave away 5, and smoked 5. Now I wish I gave away 1, smoked 5, and had 4 in my humidor. lol.

Yes they are easily the best cigar I have ever had. I im saving the other 44 for special, special, special occasions. If you can some how find some of these cigars, it would be in your best interest to get them. Gasdoc, did you have the Cohiba A35 Anni Humidor as well?

When I think of “Top 5 Cigars of the decade” I think of cigars that have been released in that decade and by virtue of taste and quality have made a significant impact on global market trends. These would have to be regular release cigars, available to all markets, that are destined to become classic. So here’s my picks.

Cohiba- Siglo VI (2002)
What more needs said about this cigar. Coveted not only for its incredible taste, but it’s handsome good looks, impeccable construction and quality. A bit on the pricey side, but smoke one and you will know what you paid for.

Montecristo - Petit Emundo (2006)
One of my favorite releases in the last decade, with a great draw and construction. The balance of flavors are perfect for my palate. I have never had a bad one. Great any time, for any budget.

Partagas - Series P No 2 (2005)
An instant classic. In my opinion, this is the “flagship” of Partagas. I think its safe to say, that this is the most popular and loved of all the standard release torpedos.

San Cristobal de la Habana - El Principe (1999)
With the whole Marca being first introduced in 1999, you could easily put any of the SCDLH cigars on this list. From the huge majesty of Muralla-double pyramid to the quaint simplicity of the Oficios-corona, all SCDLH cigars are world class in my opinion and stand there ground in any category. For the sake of appealing to the masses, I’ll list the El Principe. The El Principe is excellent value introduction to the line and has been sought after by thousands of smokers new and old.

Trinidad - Reyes (2004)
Everything said about the SCDLH line can be reverberated here. The entire line of Trindad is Impeccable. From the first public release of the Fudadores in 1999 to the three 2004 releases, the Coloniales, Robusto Extra and Reyes, the entire line is the among the best cigars I have ever seen produced. Again, for mass appeal, I selected the widely popular Reyes.

Hey C3 on your best current list you have the esplendido as number 1. Does that mean you consider it to be good right out of the box?

No. I have yet to buy a whole humidor. I have bought jars, books, etc, but never a whole humidor. I have a guy that buys most of the humidors and sells samples in 5s and 10s.

I’m not busting any chops here, but come on people, put some substance into your post. Without some fundament backup to your picks here, the top 5’s listed are nothing more than personal favorites, which is completely subjective and doesn’t merit the title “cigar of the decade” As to the RE’s or LE’s, some are great cigars of course, but what will their impact be 10-20 years from now? Sure, they will gain some collectible value, but those cigars are going to be localized to a limited number of smokers and budgets, very similar to the Davidoffs and Dunhills today. They will have little impact on cigar smokers overall.

Is this a writing assignment? Should we separate the stock cigars from the EL's, RE's and Humidor releases?

Hey and WOA, don't think that you are exempt from this assignment either. Just because you started this thread does not mean you own it.

LOL- It's just funny. Every time a list, suggestion or choice is posted to this board, its a free for all with nothing to back up what people are saying. I personally thought this was a great topic and worthy of some discusion. I would just like to see peoples reasoning behind their choices, not just 5 random answers or 5 favorites. Cigar of the decade people!!!

I dont think RE's & LE's should be segregated per sa, but I would like to know peoples reasoning behind their "COTD" title on them. I stated my reasons as to why I omited them from my list. So if it an assignment, please state your answers and show your work!!

what started as a fun "cigar of the decade" thread, your personal top 5 best smokes of this decade, has become an essay on explaining why you like a cigar? and chose it to be in the top 5(or you fail the Class). hmm, I want this to be 500 words, MLA Format, Double Spaced. Well Elaw,

1. Cohiba (A) Gran Corona- By far the richest, smoothest, Cohibas finest smoke I have ever had. This is what I can hope for heaven to be like. I can try to explain to you, but this cigar cant be put into words(thus why describing it is, well, not the same) I break out 1, maybe 2 each year. I still remember the day I purchased the Humidor. It was a partly cloudy day, it had rained that morning, when I saw it, my eyes lit up, and I instantly new this was gonna be a cigar to be reckoned with. So we went back to the hotel. Me and My Dad each smoked 1, and it was just the absolute best cigar I have evr had.. think Cohiba Sublime.. times 10.. if I could say anything else I would. I love that cigar, and every time I smoke one, I always think of Dad. One day, we will be smoking Cohiba (A)s together again.
