Find myself in Singapore for a few days, one of the premier shopping capitals of the world. Yet, it appears there is no LCDH. Wanted to see if anyone had some current information on where I could find a good cigar in town. Hotel claims to have some, but at $60US a stick, I am going to have to pass.

Thanks!

The B&M I frequent in Singapore is The Connoisseur Divan. http://www.connoisseurdivan.com/

It's essentially an LCDH, run by PCC.

Stocked with fine and hard to find cigars with a great selection of scotch, manned by knowledgeable staff. They also have a small indoor air-conditioned smoking area, a rarity in
smokers-are-murderers Singapore. Look for Hehru.

Steer clear of the hotel lounges as usual. If you just wanna grab a single, the best place would be the Oaks Cellars at Orchard Parade Hotel, near the Forum Shopping Centre. Although their stock only consists of the more popular vitolas, their prices are as is, including GST and service charge. Look for Benjamin.

The prices in Singapore for cigars are pure rip offs. It doesn't help that there's no competition here as almost all shops get their supply from Pacific Cigar Company and PCC is the sole Cuban cigar distributor in the entire AP. Not to mention that PCC stipulates a min retail price to those shops who get the cigars from them for re-sale.

The only consolation is there're not many (or any that I know of) fakes around.

My best advice is to get them duty free from the airport where you're flying in from and smoke 'em here. And when you're leaving, get them from Changi airport's duty free. The prices there are quite reasonable because they can't rip off people who tranvel frequently and know their prices.

I thought that only applies to certain regional edition cigars and not all CCs? Maybe it is different in Singapore where there's a minimum re-sale price for all CCs?

At Connoisseur Divan, the staff usually gives me a 20-30% discount if I purchase a box. 40% for 3 or more for all cigars except the REs. Thus, the
strictest price control is for the REs, which is not unlike the internet merchants we purchase from. However, be aware that the prices listed may not be inclusive of 7% GST and 10% service charge. Other than that it's bearable. Even the cigar prices in the B&Ms in tax-free Hong Kong are not that much lower than Singapore's.

According to the contract, it applies to all cigars you get from them. I'm not sure what'll happen if you sell below though...

Wow, Mr Illegality, you must be one of their VIP customers then Smile They do give discounts to people who buy boxes but what you get is pretty decent.

For me, I just get them from Switzerland. Even with the taxes, they're still a good deal cheaper than here. From my observation, prices for cigars are lowest in Singapore followed by Hong Kong in Asia. With all others being significantly higher. Am talking about buying singles...

Could any of the Singapore locals comment on duties/customs that would be imposed on a box of cigars if I had it shipped to Singapore while visiting there?

Looking over the Singapore customs site (http://www.customs.gov.sg/leftNav/trad/List+of+Dutiable+Goods.htm) it indicates $352.00 per/kgm - suggesting that the tax would come close to the value of the box of cigars itself?

Can anyone clarify?
