Last Saturday was my daughters baptism, and it was a marathon, from the church at 10:00 AM, until everyone left at 8:00 PM, getting everything ready, relaxing my wife, so she would not kill the event planner. And everything else that goes along with the territory.
I gave away some Habanos at the Baptism, but like always, people leave them, or just take one without lighting it, anyway they were not the best habanos.
So after the last person left, I stayed with 2 of my closest friends and took out a Cohiba EL 2003 DC, that form me is one of the best.
And well it did live up to it's name, still have the burned fingers to show for it. Great and I mean Great Chocolate Taste, it has not changed since the last one I had over 1 year ago.
Only the flavors are more direct, it started with a light chocolate taste, then it moved to an espresso creamy taste.
I had it with some JW Green label (not a bad single malt) and it was the perfect Habano to relax, you need to really concentrate on this fine Habano, since the taste really change, but your palate can very easily identify them,
The smell of the smoke of this Habanos is the best I have ever smelled, it's like you are blowing chocolate smoke, 2 more friends came to the table, and they were not smoking, and they said wow what a smell.
Ash was a light Grey, burned straight, did not go out at all, it was just a great smoke, Imagine smoking a creamy espresso mocha.
And yes I did burn my fingers, since when I first smoked one about 4 years ago, I knew these would be classics, I only smoke these on special occasions.
I could actually say that the Cohiba DC EL 2003 is a better habanos than the Cohiba Serie A Gran Corona, really, the taste is just so direct, so wow, never a bitter puff, and the blend just goes so well with Scotch.
You know a lot of people say that they pair Single Malt Scotch with Chocolate. Now Imagine having all these taste in one Habano.
I wish I could describe it with more detail, another great Habano. I only had one of these, and my other 2 friends had their own Habanos.
One asked how could he get a box of these, I said they are all gone, glad I still have two sealed boxes. Since I really believe in a couple of years we will see these at the CC of CA rated a 99 if not a 100.
If anyone can still get a box of these great Habanos, believe me, get them, It is perfection, in every way. I can't wait till I have the next one, it was just that good.
Of course just be careful, that they are not fake, since I have seen some fakes around, but more sublimes than DC.
I am going to Switzerland next month, I might just look for another box, if I can find one, they were just to good.

Still a few Cohiba DC's left in Ireland, but veeeeery expensive. However, I have a very special event coming up soon, so I may get one of those to celebrate: I was considering a Sublime, but your review has changed my mind!
good review Rob.. sounds like you really enjoyed that cohiba....
I've only had a couple of the DC's.. and that was way back back in 2004-2005.. back then, they were simply outstanding... I can only immagine what they have become now.
My favorite cigar as well Roberto, bar none. I have about a 1/2 box left and I kick myself thinking how I smoked so many, knowing full well these would be classics. Heck, they were practically classics in 2004, just incredible!

That's great Steve. It's nice that in almost every thread you insist on tell us how many of these and those you have. We are all very very impressed I can tell you.
I look forward to your positive contributions in the various threads.
Have a nice day.

A fantastic cigar. To my taste, much better than the Sublime. And as a curious coincidence, I paid the same price for a box when first released as I paid for a box of first release Edmondo Dantes 109s.

And just so Ricky Martin is clear, I have 3 boxes and they are real and fantastic.

Great review!
Anyone know of any cigars that might have the same taste profile? Chocolate, expresso...
Steve remember that Seinfeld episode with the girl friend that he wondered if her boobs were real? Oh and by the way...they are REAL and they are Fantastic! Classic...

Yes guilty as charged, I ripped off that sarcasm from Seinfeld.

can I be a real git and point out that JW green label is not a single malt? it's a very highly rated blend though, but it's still a blend. it has Cardhu and Talisker and Cragganmore in it and lots of other malts. no grain whisky so it's a pure malt (never drink anything else!). Oh Scotland! what a country. Scotland and Cuba, a true match.
there are still boxes of Cohiba DC EL 2003 available in London, I've thought about them but my wallet has always said no. maybe I'll buy a couple of sticks. but I could get a box of 25 RASS for the price of about 7 CDCs.
anyway, whisky and chocolate!? that really is sick .... I'll have to try that ;-)

After sampling a few of these great cigars I bought a box as an investment about three years ago. One source lists them at $1250/box. In five Years they might be double that. If the US embargo against Cuba ends, well, we are looking at major money for these cigars. This is the only box I ever bought as an investment.I smoke or age my stash to smoke. It will be fun to see how this works out and if I can't sell them down the road, I'll smoke them. Win win as far as I can tell!
