My first Diplomaticos 2 last night. What a surprise! Better than a Monte 2 I compared this afternoon. Or is this a hit or miss label? Perhaps 20 out of 1 is a good box vs 5 of 1 to the Monte?
Great brown wrapper and a more refine taste... but it was too loose of a construction at the final 1/4.
The Monte's are way better as the Dip's are supposed to be a cheaper version of the famed MC lineup. The Dips are still nothing to be sneezed at; but you be the judge!
Diplomatico in a runaway, to this guy's taste. Both better straight up and more consistent.
The Big Name isn't always the answer. Have a friend give you one unbanded and then another without telling you what each is. I'm betting I know which one you'll enjoy more.
Monte 2's are like a hot chick who is a shitty girlfriend. Folks give em way too much credit when they're good and way too much forgiveness when they suck. Which, if folks were really honest, is too often for all of the hullabaloo.

diplomaticos has similar flavor to that of monte 2.. but monte has alot more of it throughout the stick... I say go monte 2. Be sure to dry box them before smoking..I've had several plug ones from a 10 ct. box.
" . i put two boxes of cigars on the window sill and voila, the cigars became, well, "plump" within a few days. so far the plump damp cigars smoke "better" than the cool dry ones "

Monte 2 for sure! I have had both and they are both great cigars, but for myself anyway the Monte 2 is a much more complex smoke with notes of cinnamon on the palate at time and spice. Although it has been some time since i have had a Dip and maybe the need to re-evaluate again to be more accurate. But i have been smoking Monte 2's since 1998 and have seen the transgression of great to good back to great since then. But you are who you are and like what you will of course. But thats just my opinion, hope it helps

im in agreement with poupon here. the diplo are not just a less expensive, some say less attractive version of the monte.
diplo #2 are good cigars, but not great. the monte #2 are often capable of becoming classics.
My earlier post seems to have disappeared into the ether. Not sure why. Oh well. Bottom line: Don't believe the hype. It's amazing to see the effect the Monte band has on some folks. The ability to make you forget the six previous cigars that either were lousy or just OK when you smoke one that is actually good; and the ability to magically turn good into great in your mind through some projection.
VRU HUpman2 Dip2 PSP2
All better and more consistent than the Monte 2. The Monte has been the Notre Dame of Cuban cigars for years now, but people want to hold on to that image of bygone greatness. Good luck to you.
One guy's opinion.

I must agree, especially with the first two on the list.
