I would like to know your favorite brand of cuban cigars and why? I know most people have a favorite vitola/size, (mine being robusto) but what is the brand you look foward to smoking the most and is your go to brand? (price not being a factor)

Personally I like Partagas the best. (for I am still very young with habanos) I love the power, full bodied taste and notes of pepper and spice from their smokes. I have smoked most of their lines and have not been disspointed from the PSD4 to the 898's to the shorts or the MM perfecto's. I love the smell, flavor and the earthy taste.... MMmmmmmm

I am still licking my lips from the PSD3 I smoked earlier in the hot tub! If you could only smoke one brand, what would it be? So what is your favorite brand and why? Cool

Being new to Habanos doesn't make your choice change, imho. Because Partagas is my favorite, too. And for the same reasons. Their line is more consistent with their overall flavor picture. I feel you can go from a short to a lusi and taste some of the same notes, smooth with less sharpness. Just more as the cigars get larger. The notes transition into the next note better, as well.

One things for sure, you'll never find me without a Short in my pocket... Red Face
...I mean the cigar, of course Smile Wink Big Grin

Partagas for me too. Love that first blast of pepper from a PSD4. Just posted that the PSD3 is one of my favorite EL's. And Partagas shorts are hard to beat when you only have a little time for a smoke.

Still only a slight edge over Bolivar, with the BBF, Royal Corona, PC, etc.

I like Partagas the best. I think that Cuban taste I love comes across the most consistantly with this brand.

I like Cohiba...but can seldome afford to indulge. That being said, I like Bolivar and Partagas.

The other day I watched the film, "Seabiscuit" and one of the characters was "Tick-Tock" McGlaughlin played by William H. Macy. The film is set in the 1930's, and the character is a radio personality. He smokes and drinks throughout the film, and alongside him is an assortment of cigar boxes...Partagas and Montecristo...I wonder where they got those?

Well, that being said about Bolivar, there is a catch. While I have always enjoyed the corona gigante (churchill) and the corona extra (corona gorda) as well as the petit corona (don't tell anyone!), it's certainly no secret that I am not fond of the royal corona...I find it weak, lacking in character and strength, not worthy of the reputation it has in some circles, and basically worthless - no matter the hype, the name it hides behind or the appearance it assumes. To me, it's just second rate and two-bit.

There's no doubt the Partagas Serie D cigars are excellent. However, so far none of the other vitolas they make appeal to me.

For overall consistancy and a flavor I like the most, I pull for the Bolivar with a close runner up by Romeo & Julietta. I think the Bolivar Belicoso Fino is one of the finest cigars that can be had in it's price range. I've never experienced one with a draw problem and they always deliver smooth, flavorful smoke. The Bolivar flavor is consistant in most of their vitolas as well, IMO. The Corona Junior, the PC, even the lonsdales deliver the same profile, but in a different package.

The one Boli I didn't care for though was the Royal Corona. My experience with the RC was not what I expected. Royal Corona, IMO, is more in your face, slightly bitter and at times harsh. It could be the RC's were too fresh and not ready for my palate. I'll let my next purchase rest and maybe with good time, the RC will mellow a bit.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about the Boli's, my favorite. But ask this again next year and my opinion could change as I'm trying something new all the time.

Wow that's a tough one Smile
I have to say H.Upmann. I've never had a bad one. I love strong cigars like Partagas, Cohiba and Bolivar but the quality control on the Upmanns is unbeatable.

SLR, for sure, if only for the Serie A. But it's not only the Serie A. The DC, Churchill & PC are all among my favorites.

Two ways to answer this. First is: My favorite Cuban brand is all of them. Second is: All Cubans are my favorite brand. I cannot put it any plainer than that! Wink

Bob,

I also agree that the Coronas Gignantes and the Coronas Extras are great cigars however I have to disagree with you on the Royal Coronas. I bought a couple of boxes of Royal Coronas about a year and a half ago with a boxcode of OSU JUL02 and these are the best BRC's that I have smoked. Email me your mailing address and I will send you a couple that I think will change your opinion.

It is great to have you back posting here,

Ken

What ryj7x47 said.
All the more so as Robusto isn't my favorite vitola anyway,
so I'm not too concerned about the quality of the RC.

Maybe this sounds odd, but I would also mention Fonseca.
Not that they could beat a Boli CG or an Esplendido,
but the reasonable price of their No.1 and Cosacos make it
possible for me to smoke still good Cuban long fillers instead
of dog rockets when the purse get thight at the end of the month. ;-)

Easy...Gurkha Pre-Embargo Cuban. All those other ones have draw problems and you have to age them.

Alright...I'll give a serious answer. Co Espo is the best cigar I have ever smoked. CoRo comes close, but it is shorter, so its not as good. Had a PSD1 last night that was damn good as well, but not at Espo level for smoothness. PSD4 are also excellent. Have yet to try my Co DC or Lusis or Mag 46, so have no opinion on them. Second tier are Boli, HdM, MC (bad draw knocks them down from first tier), VR, Punch. Don't like Trinidads I've had and ERDM Choix are too light, and RyJ too many burn problems across the whole line.

So many good cigars. So many disapointments. Hmmmm.

I like what Eddy B said. I thoughtand asked myself " have I ever had a bad H Upman. Hard draw, too tight, bad burn, tasteless, wrapper f**ked up. NEVER. All good, all vitolas I have tried"

Having said that have I ever had a bad MC2. No.

So my favourite right now is the MC2, followed by the BBF.

why RASS of course, LOL then RAG's
then i would have to go for a Trini robusto extra for it's size and taste. but it is out of my range as a regular rotation cigar.
i switch around a lot, but RA's in general are always on for me. i think i smoked my first RAG at Jazzfest back in 98 or 99 with RyJ,and some other cA'ers, that came to NOLA for Jazzfest.
back when RAGs seemed scarce. , until then it was partags and Robania's, and some punch RS #12 from 96, oh theose were so outrageously good. and the usual assortment of Cuban cigars
