Hi Guys, Yesterday I purchased three LE 2004 sticks from a shop in my area at $20 ea. The guy has been in business for 15 years, nice shop! I was smoking one last night when I popped on here out of paranoia..haha. Anyway, the stick was amazing...rich cocoa flavors, great even burn and no harsh taste at all. I was in heaven! But, the label is odd. It looks perfect with one flaw. It has two rows of dots and then the third is kind of half in the word C O H I B A and the other above. So now, I feel like I was duped. I picked up a few Monte #2's a few monster Partagas'. The guy seems to have a very legit source and like I said, he runs probably the best shop in the area. What do you think about those labels?

If it tastes great, and you were in like heaven, then it just doesn't matter.

more than likely they were fakes from the descrption. But on the other hand who cares you were in heaven. We have a place in Valencia that sells obvious fakes that a friend of mine shops at and he usually gives me some pretty good non- cuban dot matrix band fakes that are ok, but I dont really think they are Cuban because of all of the red flags.

crazychefs, given the location of your purchase, the desciption of band and the price, your chances of having a fake are virtually 100%.
Think what part of your enjoyment was imaginery (merely because of the notion that you're smoking a Sublime 2004 EL), and what part was real. If the latter was a lot more, then you probably shouldn't care. On the other hand, for that price in the US you could've gotten some really top shelf NC stuff, so I really don't know what to say...

Can you elaborate? Does he have a cousin's ex-wife's brother working in a cigar factory in Cuba? Like others already said, if you bought this from a shop in America, they are most likely fakes. Oh by the way, what are the dimensions of those 2004 ELs? Care to share some pictures?
About once a month someone tells me that he or she has a friend that knows of some cubans that are staying at a Hotel here in Mexico City that can't leave the hotel and they need money to buy clothes, before returning to Cuba.
And they always have at least 20 boxes of Cohiba to sell, and each time I tell the friend of a friend to please show me 1 of the boxes.
This happens all the time with the Dancers, Artist, Athletes, ect, each one brings some boxes of Habanos mostly cohiba to sell so they can buy things.
And each time it's the same story. FAKE. now ive seen nice fakes, but they are still fakes, I have yet to see a real box of Habanos, not 1, why well because unless they steal the box directly from a factory (meaning jail time for cubans) these are made in their houses with discarded tobacco.
Now if you can't tell the difference and don't really care to smoke banana leaves, then please go ahead, since the last boxes that were offered to me 2 weeks ago, 25 boxes at 100 dlls each.
Cohiba Robustos, Cohiba Sublimes 2007, Cohiba Esplendidos and Vegas Robaina.
All Fake, smoked one of the cohiba robustos, gave me a headache and the Sublimes well the date tells you all, but they smelled like a cow farm.
I don't want to get your hopes down, who knows maybe the guy did have the real stuff, I once found a box of Diplomaticos # 6 at a local shop in Geneva for 100 CHF, had been sitting there for ever.

A real Cohiba Sublime is, at minimum, $35-40 cigar at this point. The price alone (considering the retailer likely got them for much less than the $20 he charged) means they're fake.

More like $50plus at this time. In fact I do believe that these are now generally more expensive than the Cohiba DC and will continue to increase in value IMHO.

Well Roberto, it seems the price of fakes suffers from inflation too! When I was last in Cuba (2003) the jitineros were selling Montecristo #2s for $20 and Esplendidos for $50 a box. For research purposes I bought a single Espie for $2. The Popular brand cigarettes, at 35 cents a pack, had much better tobacco than the fake Espie.

I forgo the Populars for the $6 cartons of Upmanns. I smoked an EL from 2004 a couple weeks ago that tasted like a$$. If you were in heaven then that's all that matters.

I paid about 40 euros ($60ish) for a Sublime in Foxes last week, to see what the story is on these. Ireland is one of the more expensive places to get Cuban cigars but the price on these hasn't gone up since they came out here. Foxes has at least one full box left but I don't think I'll be splashing out anytime soon.
