I've found out that is impossible to get the best Dominicans because of the no trade zones. I was wondering what the deal is with Cubans. Can you get Cubans at all? If so where. I'm going to Punta Cana. Is there a duty free shop at the airport? how about other outlets locally?
You're in luck! You'll be in DR just in time for the annual "Selling Fake Cubans to Tourists Festival", which lasts from January 1st to December 31st of each year. It takes place everywhere on the island, anywhere they may offer cigars.

Friend of mine attended this festival last month....brought back a glass top box of Esplendidos that he paid $35 for. Had a laugh and then broke the news to him.

Never ever buy in Niagara Falls. Last time I was there I saw the lamest excuses for cigars in the world. Honest to God I saw "RyJ Churchills" that looked like they were rolled with orange construction paper selling for $50 each . It is such an American trap. I would drive that bit and go to the LCDH in Toronto.

Not true! Gordons on Ferry St., has authentic CC's. Sam , the owner , has been selling real Cuban cigars to members of this board for years. IMO his shop is the only trusted source in NF and NOTL

I didn't mean every single seller but 90% of them. And that "RyJ Churchill" just hapens to be the lamest fake I have ever seen. And I have seen a lot of them. Another reason why I don't recomend buying them there, unless you know someone like Sam, is the price since, like I said, its a tourist trap especialy for American tourists that might have never seen a CC before. Just my opinion after spending some time down there last summer.
It's gonna be the same as any high volume tourist destination out of the country. They are going to mass produce fakes of whatever the tourist are arriving asking for. (Cigars, absynthe, presription drugs, non-prescription drugs, collectibles, jewelry, etc.)

I am also going to punta cana this summer. I have been grieving over the fact that I will not be able to buy cubans. But, if you look over in the food, drink, and travel section, people have mentioned stuff about good local cigars and cigar factory visits. That is what I will be doing.
I will have to steer my gf's dad away from the fakes, he is such an easy target.
I just like cigars, is that ok?
