I know its a personal preference, I love the #2's but never had an Edmundo, which do you guys prefer and how do they compare? I was planning to get a box of #2's, just making sure im not overlooking other sticks. Just curious?

I love the Edmundo, I think it has more flavor than the #2. The first box I bought when it first came out tasted like straw and had a loose draw, but every box since has been a blockbuster and seems more consistent than the #2's I've seen over the last year.

Edmundos are just now beginning to smoke like they will be something truly special in a few more years, in my opinion.

As for Monte #2, some swear by them; some swear at them. When they are "on" there aren't many better smokes if any. Regrettably, far to many of them are not "on".

For consistently excellent smokes in two or three years, I would choose the Edmundo. For smoking now, I would take a chance on a 01 or 02 or early 03 box of Monte #2 if I could find one and lawfully obtain it.

hmm, thanks guys, seems ill have to try pick up an edmundo one of these days and try it out. I have been hearing that the #2's lack a bit of consistency. Would that be just the recent years 04/05. Cant remember exactly where i heard this but hasnt it been said that the quality (consistency) of the cubans is on the rise again? Are they now coming out of that "put as many cigars on the market and get as much money as possible" phase and are giving the "craft" the attention it once had again?? I guess what im asking is how are the 06 boxes (apart from a bit on the young side) and what are the predictions on the 07 boxes? should i get the Edmundos now and wait a bit for the #2's?
Thanks

I find that consistency problems plague the entire brand. I've had sublime Montes from all their vitolas (except the Especial 2 and the new Petit Edmundos.) Then again, I've also had a lot of bad ones - way too many, in my opinion.

And that's too bad when you've been drooling over a pile of #2's for years only to find they're rolled too tightly or in some other way compromised.

I agree with Van on this one. I haven't had a decent MC-2 in years. The last Ed I smoked was wonderful. Textbook Monte, but still no where near a classic MC-2. Problem is, they don't make those classic #2's anymore.

I haven't been able to tell the difference in the taste between the two. I prefer the shape of the Edmundo over the #2.

If you are talking about buying current vintages the 06 Edmundos are smoking really well with only a short time in the humidor.

I like both of these sticks. A friend recently sent me some aged #2 and they are wonderful.
