google search peso cigars. I believe they are the equivalent to $1.00 a bundle of 25. I've seen some called Selectos.

Very few smokers in Cuba smoke cigars, most are cigarette smokers. As for premium cigars, Cubans don't smoke them at all, too expensive. Any Cuban you talk to thinks the tourists are crazy for spending the going rate for cigars. Some brands of peso cigars are Reloba, Statos, Bauza, and Selectos and are not sold where tourists shop. They go for just a little over a buck for a bundle of 25. I have only tried the Bauza and will tell you they are butt ugly and taste like crap. For an average Cuban worker the cost of a box MC#2 (190 CUC in a Cuban LCDT) would probobly put food on the table for six months. Right now a CUC is $1.17 CDN or if you use US dollars $1.08 + 11% surcharge.

I was in Cuba 2 months ago for 10 days(in Santiago de Cuba). The entire time that I was in country I saw 1 Cuban (no exaggeration) smoking a cigar and he was in the tourist area playing a guitar for tips. The average Cuban makes about $15.00 per month.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

I think cigar workers in the larger factories do smoke the Culebras. The have a 3 cigars ration per roller per day. I have had US $1 Monte A sold by the lady workers right off Monte factory's gate after their shift 10 years ago.

A ten year old Monte "A"? Nice to get that cigar with that kind of age for a buck!
