One of my favorite hole in the wall B&M's has refused to cover their cigar stock. I love it. I just look and point to the cigar in the box that I want from the various wall humidors.

Picked up a BRC and a Hupman #2. Both of these are really dark and oily. When I asked to hold the cigar before I bought it, she frowned at me and said the Government of Canada does not allow that. But handed them to me anyway. Their prices are very good with the bench mark Monti #2 selling for $26, and the #4 for $15.

They have the most amazing selection, Cohiba Eplendidos, Rocky Patel Edge (are these really that good?), some really dark and oily looking Monti lonsdales, lots of Partagas, and lots of RyJ's. Are the Monti #1 (lonsdales) better or the same as the #4's?

Anyone else in Canada have a favorite B&M that is sticking it to the man?

While in Ottawa last month I visited Ottawa Cigar Emporium. They had nothing covered, the front door was even wide open. I grabbed some JLP's to pass out and smoke with the "boys" and a few Cohiba Siglo I.

They are supposed to cover the glass but some people rather risk the fines than comply. This new law will certainly put the brakes on B&M's. BTW, the Cigar Emporium in Ottawa is the best the city has to offer and Ray knows his stuff...although prices could be better.

I was at Stogies over the weekend. They actually had a Torcedor there rolling beautiful cigars of all sizes. I wonder how the new law applies to situations of that nature?

That must have been nice. I loved Stogies when I was there.

whats the wrapper, they have corojo, maduro, sumatra?
im not a huge fan of the maduro, but the corojo is a solid smoke and the sumatra made the top 25 this year for what its worth.

Update to my reply - the Cigar Emporium in Ottawa has changed hands and the new owner is called Yuri. Ray has moved to the Government of all places! I discovered that Cuban Punch is making a comeback in Canada and is being imported by La Casa Cubana.

I was in Windsor, Ontario recently. Didn't see one cigar shop that had covered its stock. I was able to walk in the humidors, inspect/ feel cigars, etc. My only complaint was no smoking in the bars/ hotels and excessive prices.

I don't think they were "sticking it" to anybody.

As I understand the law, and read it on the province's Web site, specialty tobacco shops are not required to cover their cigars, but must keep cigarettes hidden. They are supposed to register with the province as a tobacco shop.

I was in Windsor, Ont., last weekend for the first time since the "powerwall" ban. In convience stores with humidors, the cigars were covered, as were all cigarettes. But in dedicated tobacco stores, cigarsd were visable, as before.

I believe that Tobacconists are exempt from covering their humidors/cigars but not cigarettes.

Some of the Holy Smokes have to cover everything since the are not registered as Tobacconists. Its a very silly law. I understand the premise behind it but it is really pushing boundaries. It would have been easier to set up a room like they did at the video stops for XXX videos.

Tobacconists are exempt from the new law. Most cigar joints fall under this exemption.

Indeed, and after all the bitching and complaining that cigars would be hidden... sigh.
