I just received a box of Bolivar Belicosos Finos (TEB ’07) in the mail and it looks like the box got wet at some time in the past. The cigars were not wet when I opened the box. I did notice that the wood liner between the cigar rows smells a bit musty. The whole box smells a little musty and my wife smelled a slight ammonia smell. No sign of mold. The cigars smelled like barnyard and hay but not as strong as my BRC's. So, send them back and get a new box or do you guys think I’m good?

Thanks for the help.

TEB 07 for BBF is a great combo. Probably overhumidified. Take them out of the box and put them in your humi for a few weeks to dry out slowly. BTW, were any of the wrappers split? If so, send them back.

Thank you for the quick responses.

Only one cigar had a split wrapper just at the foot, about 1 cm long. All the other cigars looked good.

Pretty funny. Guess I shouldn't ask whether they smelled musty, probably none of my business.

Agree with what was stated. Some vendors overhumidify. If the ciagrs are still too high in humidity, I would consider removing them from the box and let the everything air out in your humidor and then place them back in (assuming you have a cabinet or cooledor) just to prevent/reduce mold in the future.

Only one damaged very slightly, then keep them! Smoke them now and enjoy.
