You know, now you’re getting carried away but I like it. I think it would be harder to arrange the actual purchasing unless there is one person in charge for the Cubans and one for the NCs. Or I could fly down to Miami on one weekend and Havana the next.
I did some window shopping and for $150 I could easily pick 4 Cubans and 4 Non-Cubans for the event. $150 or less per person is what we need for the cigars.

I've noticed how the tasting notes for a particular cigar often read not like any one person's experience but as an amalgam of several individuals' tasting notes w/o any real consensus. A review in the 4/'08 issue on the Monte A would have us believe "the smoke brings together an interesting balance of creamy spiciness and grassy earthiness." That is, this 6/'02 boxdate CC not is just grassy (which I thought tended to be characteristic of young sticks) or earthy but possessing of "grassy earthiness," whatever that is. The kicker: The finish--which one might expect to be long or short but hardly a different flavor profile than the "smoke"--is called "rich with tobacco notes." Well OK then.
On a related topic, I would like to say that I was disappointed with the number of Cuban Cigars that were tasted and rated in the current issue. You rated only one Cuban Churchill and didn't rate any Cuban pyramides. I like to see how the Cubans compare with each other and to see if there are any real stand outs. I know you can't rate all of the cigars made and I do like how you have a mix of sizes rated in each issue, but you really skimped on the Cubans in this issue.

Let's face it, just because it's a CC doesn't automatically mean that it's better than all NC's. If you were offered a choice between a Jose Piedra or an Opus X, which would be your choice?
I am SO sorry for topping this post, but I found this premise to be almost silly. The person posing the question has obviously not had a Jose Piedra, and surely not one of the new ones with the white band. I would rather smoke a half a JLP than an Opus X. The reason is simple, taste. I mean, I'm sorry for the Fuentes whom I consider to be first rate Americans and tobacco men, but I HAD the Opus X, it was my white whale for a whole summer, I ended up being able to purchase an entire box of Double Coronas when most people were limited to 3 sticks. And you know what, they are alright. The new JLP is a flavor MISSLE. It's tangy, lip smaking power with a nonstop rush of flavor like a runaway hose. I am not sure how many other people feel that way, but cost ASIDE, there is still no contest.
