There are several threads on this issue. There are no authentic Cuban cigars in Playa del Carmen, and very few in Cancun and/or Cozumel. If you have to ask the question, then you probably are not in a position to be able to discern real from counterfeit...and that's not a commentary on anyone in particular, it's just that US citizens have such little exposure to Cuban cigars that we are not ordinarily able to know. There is a CASA DE HABANOS in Cancun, and although there MAY be a store here or there that has the authentic product, I would bet the farm that, even if you stumbled upon such a place, you would not be able to tell the difference...so stick to the known quantity, that being the Casa de Habanos.

Very interesting - I just came back from Playa del Carmen on Saturday 9/25. I posted the same message a few weeks ago. Take it from me - there are no real places to buy authentic cubans from Playa del Carmen. You can take the ferry and cross over to Cozumel and look for a store ($16.50 round trip leaving every hour on the hour - you should visit the island if you haven't been there). I am told there are legitimate stores on Cozumel.

Of course, you can get a good deal from the local guy walking the beach holding a box of Cohiba's for just a few bucks - I am sure they are legit LOL...........

Have a great trip - it is a great area!

Yep, exactly as RJY7x47 & Dubya says. There is a LCDH in Cancun and a mini, although friendlier version on Cozumel. The shop in Cozumel is easy to miss, shoot for the Hard Rock then head North a couple of blocks. Do not buy anywhere else.

Make the day trip, go to LCDH.

Anything else is going to be $$$ in the wind.

Good point. You can hop on a charter from Cancun fairly cheap. You may have to impersonate a Canadian though!

Cwhite6, the girls in Japan during the Korean war, said of the Canucks on leave;
"Big Co(ks , no money and dirty underwear"
so I guess you could start by taking "Extend", buy cigars, and leave your gatchees on for a month. Eek
Wearing Sorel's and a toque wouldn't hurt either

Great little place to eat in Playa del Carmen. Up from the main ferry dock, there's a little park. Next to that, on the little street there is a great little restaurant with outdoor wood benches and tables and umbrellas. GREAT place for a late night snack, lunch, whatever. The quesadillas are outstanding...they make them with a home-made chorizo, and all sorts of different peppers. Shouldn't be able to miss this place, although I forgot the name of it.

I purchased a few Ramon Alones from CASA Partagas in Plya del Carmen. I noticed that there where quite a few stores along the ave that carried that name. The one I stopped at was towards the north end of fifth ave. If you come in from the resorts area on the north end come down around 2 blocks and the shop is on the right. I did have to go thru their stuff sinse they got cuban and NC's all stacked together. Was looking to go to Cancun LCDH but did not make it to hotel row. Great Silver buys in Downtown Cancun on TULU ave. Cheaper then Playa. Playa getting very expensive due to tourism.
