Spanish right wing politician Loyola de Palacio wished Castro to be dead soon. Well.... he's not going to live forever, that's for sure....

U.S. officials weren't sympathetic. Asked Thursday if he wished Castro a speedy recovery, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said: "No. . . . The situation of Mr. Castro is of little concern to us, but unfortunately of enormous importance to the people of Cuba, who have suffered very long under his rule."

Oh, the irony.

People in Cuba were actually weeping in the streets, shocked at the sudden vulnerability of their venerable leader (either that, or crying with joy that he would suffer as they have suffered over the years). Castro had such a stumble about a year and a half ago, at an outdoor speech in some very hot weather. His fatigues are actually temperature controlled and are made or lined with kevlar, so they say. Despite that, he collapsed during a speech in the heat, but was quick to regain his compusure. Perhaps someone should give the guy a manicure.

Ironic INDEED!!!!! The TRUE irony is that it is our OWN policy that empowers, enables and justifies the existence of Castro...it is our policy that keeps him in power.

I noticed a few interesting billboards recently, for example, one that read as follows:

w.bush.genocidio@bloqueo.hp ('hp' reference is similar to how we would say, 'sob'; bloqueo, of course, is the embargo)

underneath, options to 'guardar' or 'eliminar' (save or erase).

Another made apparent a startling stastistic:

"70% of the Cuban population was born under the embargo..." The startling fact is...the remaining 30% were the ones who FOUGHT FOR the revolution and supported Fidel. So...those there either supported the reason the embargo exists, or were born under the system that begat the embargo and know nothing else.

Irony.
