I know someone with a 1492 humidor with a few sticks missing. Anyone have an opinion about what it is worth? I know Christies has auctioned these in the past for some pretty big bucks but with a few cigars missing it may really affect the value. Thanks

Thanks for your input. Apparently Brian Ebbesen, the man in charge of the cigar auctions has recently left Christie's so I don't know who is replacing him and their level of expertise.

There is no question that investors and collectors would pay considerably more for an intact and full humidor than for one which has been opened and from which cigars have been taken. The degree of the dimunition in value, I cannot guess.

Geez Jerry, I'm sure with all your money you've been a better customer than I have!
Don't forget to pay your phone bill this month Jerry, with all those mandatory phone calls to FLA and what not!
What a jackass you look like Jerry, you don't know squat about me or what I do, who the hell do you think you are? You wouldn't know if I were the best customer, or not a customer at all. Dumbass.

OMG!!! This whole thing about people owing people is just silly. What about pay it forward? If you help someone do it for yourself not to make them indebted to you. Get over it! As well as this whole thing about being with me or against me. How about taking some ownership for your actions….There is way to many bad guys and victims. Hell I for one am an a$$ and I could have done things differently but I did not. But hell I am a man and I made my bed as others are now in the bed they made. The people that I feel sorry for are the people that are to self righteous to understand their role in creating the problem.
Dear God just man up!

Well, I suppose you would be would, what with all the thousands of cigars you've purchased at Christies auctions over the years.
We don't need posts like this here. Feel free to post about cigars, but there's no reason to bait your fellow posters. This post got the thread off topic. Shortsqueeze, no sense taking the bait, OK?
To answer the original question, there is considerable value to a box of 1492s, even with some cigars missing. The 1492 is one of only about 7 cigars to ever be rated a perfect 100 points by Cigar Aficionado. Their quality and rarity makes them a gem to collectors.
Calling Christies--with our without Brian there--is a good idea for something this precious.

A reliable informant advises that he purchased in intact 1492 humidor last year for about $1750.00. As I understand it, this was a negotiated price, and not at auction.
How much less an open and partially depleted humidor would be worth depends largely on the condition of the remaining cigars. Even if they are on excellent condition, a reasonable price would be about 60% of the price of an intact humidor, according to my informant.
