Hello
It's been a while since I've posted on the boards, but damn I have changed my whole perception on what cigars are. being an american with a pretty extensive taste in cigars I always enjoyed my hobby infact I've had some killer smokes that I really enjoyed in the past. Then it all changed, no a camping trip to canada I decided what the heck lets grab some cubas and see waht all the fuss is about...dear god I ended up wasting my entire trip budget(it was only a weekend trip) on 12 beautiful cigars. and in canada that is quite the expensive hobby.

I got my hands on the following.

3x cohiba siglo VI tubo
cohiba rubusto
montecristo #2
partegas serie D #4
diplimatico #2
H. upmann magnum 46
bolivar Belicos
bolivar coronas extra
trinidad coloniales
trinidad robusto extra

let me just say the coloniales was the first cuabn to touch these lips and it rocked my world, it would class as one of the finest if not the finest cigar I've had it was just amzing and I can't wait to smoke the larger robusto. I've also smoked down the cohiba robusto, the bolivar coronas(what a powerhouse, I felt very light headed and I am normally fuller bodied smoker) and last night at work I smoked the cohiba siglo VI tubo, my my these things are fantastic...I think I've really been one over by these wonderful cigars. Well I just thought I'd share my experience...now I must go off to research for sources.

Good work that man!

The Trinidad and Siglo VI are fantastic smokes and I can see a trip to Cuba not far way. You'll easily be able to covince yourself of the expense comapare to Canadian prices.

I'd blame Canada...I mean why not? They never get blamed for anything! Its only fair. Also, Canadian cigar prices will make all other countries' prices look reasonable or cheap.

Welcome back!

Yeah our cigars are pricey, but you guys make some of it back with the exchange rate. Think of us poor canadians who have to pay for them in canadian funds. I guess we can't complain either, at least we can get them here. As for our beer, that's the reason why we are so easy to get along with, we're happy and ****-faced!! Big Grin

Jump,
Gotta commend you on your excellent selctions. My carrer moved me overseas, and at first the sampling of all the different NC singles got pretty expensive. After figuring out what I liked, I bought boxes. In hindsight, I can see that what I spent so far on about 20 boxes could have filled up a huge floor standing display humidor with NC's. But as the rest of the guys have said, it's hard to turn back, although I do have CAO Brazilia's and Torano 59's with my coffee in the morning now.

Let's face it prices for cigars are outrageous no matter which side of the border you reside. FYI it is cheaper for me to buy high end Padron cigars from a Vancouver retailer than any Seattle cigar store. However, if I am given the choice of spending $20 USD on a Cuban vs any Padron, DomRep or Honduran; the Cuban will win every time. Don't you think its time to relax the out of date policy towards Cuba so we can all enjoy these smoke without politics interferring with our enjoyment?

wow sorry I just sorta posted and ran but work has been insane for the last few weeks. Yeah I have had my way with a few more of the cubans and all I have to say is wow there are a few smokes I really dont think I can do without anymore(the bolivar belicoso, trinidad, and the H. upmann)I mean I still have a play in my heart from some of those great NC cigars mostly maduros but I have definatly spoiled myself with these. Not that I'm asking but now I have to start doing research fora good source, wiht a little luck I may be refilling my humidor with some more cubans in the near future. Yeah I really should post more on this forum but I just can never find the time.

Crap, I also wanted to tell you a story about smoking my first cohiba siglo VI. I smoke at work(work in foundry and that sorta thing is allowed, which is a bonus) and I'd say i enjoy a cigar 2 or 3 nights a week at work. So a few days after I come back from my trip I decide to smoke a cuban at work, the siglo seeming like a good choice for the size and all. I light it up enjoy this great cigar and not 30 seconds later one of my co workers is like man what the hell kinda cigar are you smoking it smells just like flaming dog ****(He is a black and mild"cigar" smoker) I tell him it's a cuban, he stares blankly at and says well that just smells gross. Oh boy did i find every excuse to come up and talk to him while I was smoking it. That kind of stuff just really T's me off. Sorry for the rant, the cigar was fantastic by the way. It's just my coworker that needs a little education.

Just returned from family vacation in New France (PQ) and New England...Canadian Cubans are really expensive...paid C$48 for a CoRo (Feb 04)that tasted just like the duty free CoRos I buy in Mexico City for US$52 for 3 (hmmmm...but that is a different thread)...I guess socialism requires high sin taxes to pay for all the other wages of sin it breeds...(yes...that was sarcasm for you humour challenged PC lefties)... Wink
