Communist conspiracy. Last news was that Habanos raised prices ONLY in Cuba, but prices abroad stayed at their then current levels. That meant that, if a vendor was raising prices with the justification that Cuba raised everything 30%, it was hogwash. However, Cuba just might have raised prices abroad, too (the economic geniuses that those who make these decisions are).

Cuba is strapped for cash as are most nations. Making matters worse - oil is at an all-time high and I'm sure this is effecting Cuba as much (probably more) as it effects ourselves. Cuban may not be a hefty oil consumer like the US, but imports and exports do depend on fuel. And when fuel increases, the cost is rolled back into the product being sold. That's my guess, but I'd love to hear what other reasons have caused this too.

BTW, my vendor has NOT mentioned this yet or drasticly raised their prices, so I wonder if the increase took place in Cuba or is your vendor seizing his moment to make a quick profit.

when it comes to cuban economics, supply and demand bear no relation to one another whatsoever. those are foreign concepts. their economic decisions are purely arbitrary and capricious. when supply is up and demand is down, they RAISE prices (recent price increases). when demand is high and supply is good, they LOWER prices (the edicion limitada debaucle...they had these wonderful cigars they were selling for just about what the normal lines sold for, while people would have paid TWICE as much). So...no...the lack of capa, which really has not affected what is on the shelves, will not make any difference whatsoever. It's the person or persons in charge because of political nepotism who make these things up as they go along, and feel so damned important doing it, too!
