My friend will be making his annual trip to Cuba soon and I get to choose a couple of boxes for him to bring back for me. He is a good friend.

He will not look around too hard, so I would be grateful for any recommendations that are likely to be in a hotel shop or an airport store. I am looking for something that is not too strong - so far I will probably ask for Cohiba Robustos, Upmann Magnum 46, Monte No.2 & Cohiba Lanceros.

Any suggestions?

This is a good chance to have great habanos, but make sure that you friend make the purchase in one La Casa del Habano store. In other case you can get fakes.

In some hotels they have LCDH stores, if is not the case of your friend maybe he can go direct to the Partagas Factory Store.

Where you live? if you are from America continent maybe to find some ediciones for europe could be a good deal.

He knows to go to the LCDH stores. He got me some last year but since he is unlikely to go again for a while I want some really good smokes.

I live in the UK.

The Mag 46's and CR's are a good choice.

Don't bother with the Lancero's. Mui overrated and usually very tightly rolled.

And I presume that all of these will be pretty readily stocked in the airport or hotel LADH?

They seem to be among the most popular Havanas.

Any more I should be thinking of? This is probably my last chance to get a couple of quality boxes - the taxes here are so high! (Although I know that high taxes on Havanas are an insignificant problem in comparison to the problems others on the boards face!)

If your friend visits the Hotel Nationales by chance, they still have monte millenium robustos there for around 350 a jar. That is in the LCDH downstairs. Not many better tasting sticks on the island IMO.

I haven't been to Cuba since 2003, but then the airport had a poor selection at higher prices than the factory stores. Search & try to find a box of the discontinued RA 898s.

I heard that the airport was maybe not the best place. I'm finding it hard to wait until March!

My friend has said that he is going to look for a Corona Gorda size and is after a mild-moderate smoke. I am a bit lost with this - so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 1 is a good mild-moderate corona gorda. I'm not a big fan of mild smokes, but I'm definitely learning to appreciate what they have to offer.

My Favorite Cuban stick is the Cuaba or Cuava what ever Iam a little tipsy right now. All I know is it was ultra smooth and creamy. It had a curly end to it. It was fantastic. Wish I could get a box but I am in NYC.

Thats the one I loved it great smoke.

My favorite, that's tough. I like many Habanos for different reasons. Let me show you a few.

Thanks for you help everyone. I want to ask him to get me one of each, but I expect that UK customs would enjoy that. Anyway, if he gets 50 & I get 50 we can do a little swapping I guess.

Some of the ones that aren't the 'name' brands sound really good so I'll probably get the expensive Cohibas & Monte's this time & maybe buy a few of the others over here to stick in one of the Humi's.
