* a line of cigars, that had a limited production run (say 600 boxes) has been "sold out" and unavailable for a while now...
* a retailer (from a trusted franchise) informs me that he has now has received another small allocation and has offered them for sale...
Question -
* Can a sold out line of a limited production cigar re-appear again on the market?
*If so, how is this possible?
*Did they produce more than they originally indicated, therefore potentially diminishing the 'collectabilty' and value because of increased production supply? Or did they stagger the release from the start?
There were cigars that were on the shelves for the distributor that they re-inspected and re-released, that have some age on them. Why they didn't release them to begin with? Don't know. Did they re-manufacture the cigars with a different wrapper or something? I've seen that done at El Laguito...they were taking Lanceros out of the boxes, carefully removing the wrappers, and putting other wrappers on the cigars. Don't know if that's the case here.
For those boxes, they'll have a very conspicuous stamp on the bottom that says, "REVISADO" or something like that.

I speculate that an importer could put some stock away for a few years as an internal market investment, I think H&F has done this in the past (but I could be mistaken).
Why don't you tell us which LE you are talking about specifically? Would this be within the British market?

From what I can see, there are only 2 RE that were limited to 600 boxes. Anywho, some thoughts.
1) It's fake 2) It was acquired on the secondary market and he's now selling to you. 3) Backlog? I don't know enough about the Cuban Cigar release patterns and so on to really give credence to this. 4) He stocked some away - 600 boxes, save em for a few months or more and they'll only go up!
Either way, from your comments, "a retailer (from a trusted franchise)," I assume you mean an LCDH. General thought is if it comes from an LCDH, you're golden. I wonder if it applies in this scenario.
My basic assumption would be if he's "a retailer (from a trusted franchise)," especially an LCDH, *he* probably found some somewhere somehow and is now selling them to you. This obviously increases the chances of fakes. Why not just ask him for details.
For the LCDH in Mexico, I'm sure they are legit. Either the Mexican importer or the LCDH may have put some stock away as a market investment like I said, or perhaps just to spread them out, I don't know. LCDH will not sell fakes.
For the British market, I know of only one non-LCDH retailer that I trust 100% and I would not be surprised if he stored some away to bring out later. I don't know which retailer you are dealing with, however.
I'm curious as to the price of these delayed offerings, and how they compare to the original prices from the same retailers. Have you looked into that? Are they selling them at a premium? I'm just curious as to the intent, assuming they are legit.

auton0my, quickly erase the hints to the retailer you are referring to from your post just so the old hats don’t **** their pants, then email me and I'll be happy to answer.

auton0my, thanks for the email. I'm checking the retailer you named. If any of you guys want to email me I have a question regarding a UK retailer that I have not personally dealt with and would like an extended opinion. Thx.

Keeping in mind that with the Regional Editions, the "region" has exclusivity for either one or two years, then a couple of things could be happening. It seems, too, that there is a difference between a second allocation and the re-issue of an RE.
Several UK vendors are saying they are expecting another, but small, allocation of the Por Larranaga Magnificos. There is no reason I can see to doubt the authenticity of these cigars. Or to suspect distributors are doing something shady by holding back boxes. The initial numbers are low; the demand is high so Habanos SA makes and sends more out.
Does anyone know for a fact that all 1,020 boxes of ten and all 408 boxes of 25 have been sold? Will the boxes in the second allocation be numbered starting where the initial boxes left off? Or will the new boxes begin again with zero?
A re-release, on the other hand, would be more like the Swiss 2005 RE Ramon Allones, Eminencia and Punch, Robusto. Both were both recently re-released in late 2007, I think it was, or early 2008.
It's difficult to keep it all straight with so many new cigars, and re-issues and second allocations coming onto the market. Next year with many more REs proposed, it will be even worse. Or better, depending on your point of view.

Or, it could be as you say, Auton0my, the release was planned to be staggered from the start. Maybe Habanos SA makes this decision or maybe the distributor.

Yeah, I incorrectly used the word "re-release" - I should have said re-issue.
I was trying to find if more cigars were being made of previously sold out releases of Regionals... essentially increasing the number that were supposed to be released beyond what was initially planned.
Is there a situation where there will be over 600 boxes sold for a release that was supposed to be limited to 600.

I'd be VERY surprised if they have. Maybe it's difficult to find them at online UK vendors. But I was in Fox's and Davidoff a few weeks back and they both still had quite a few.

Within the period of exclusivity, a regional distributor can request a new release of their Regional Edition. I don't know if the correct term is "new release" or "re-release" or "new issue." But I think that more of a previously sold out RE can end up on the shelves. Unless you are investing with the intent of re-selling them down the road for a profit, I'm not sure what difference it all makes.

It's a forum rule and nothing to do with the age of posters here. If people took the time to read the rules before blindly posting there would be no need to remind those who can't be bothered.
