I just don't like when people talk about how there's a potential risk, but then they're willing to give their credit card number to people. My thought is, if you're going to break the law, don't be upset if you get caught.
Now, I'm not speaking about any member here, just in general.
Extension, good information, but I have a question. Don't you think that if the government really really wanted to get many more people, they could? I wasn't saying they don't care completely, but I don't believe it's at the top of their list, or anywhere near the top.
I think the fact that cigars come from Cuba do get certain people excited. But not people on these forums. The average American who doesn't know much about cigars go to the Caribbean with their family and want to buy some Cubans. Not because they are experienced and know what they want, just because that is what they always hear. Cuban cigars are hyped and when on vacation, people want to indulge, and usually buy glass-top Cohibas.
I just like cigars, is that ok?

Even if they don't take action on most letters....you going to take that risk after receiving a letter? There are plenty of people who have received a letter and plenty of people who have not even attempted to make a single purchase since receiving it.
So yes, keep blabbing out sources to the same guys making "Hey what about this humidor?" or "Humi problems plese help!" posts because we all want that letter.
According to this post, I'm not missing the point. You're talking about how you and other people are breaking the law and don't want to get into trouble. I'm not saying there isn't fallout and I'm not saying just because some people have placed 5,10, or 20 orders and haven't recieved a letter, they never will. I'm saying it bothers me when people break the law and then complain about being caught. To anyone who gets the letter, oh well, you should have been careful. I know of one way to guarentee you will never get a letter, don't buy illegal Cuban Cigars and import them into the US.
Maybe that last paragraph was off base, sorry .

The point is not the risk from buying, but the potential consequences of noobs blabbing about sources. The noobs here have decided it is perfectly ok to openly discuss certain vendors.
These days, in this forum, any Joe Shmoe can fire off an email and get the web address of these sources...but you don't even need to do that because the morons who now post here have decided it is ok to discuss specific details that easily identify the vendors without disclosing the actual name. They even go as far as to use nicknames, first names, and what to type into the google search engine. What used to be the standard screening process is now thrown out for anyone who can read. It's disgraceful.
Much like with a local weed dealer, the authorities aren't going to go to great lengths to bust people. But indiscriminately spread the word about a local weed dealer and eventually you force the hand of the authorities to make a public example.
The letters from OFAC were all connected to 1 place. That place had been indiscriminately given out to everyone and their brother. Now this vendor is like a neighborhood ho...everyone in 5 cities has been there and if you decide to go there again, you may or may not get herpes.
So the point is, it is just a matter of time before other sources are ruined if idiots keep running their mouths.
Ok, I agree with what you're saying. I agree if people spread the word too much, more sources will get shut down. I get e-mails from random people asking for a source every few days, but I keep my mouth shut. My pet pev is when people break the law and then wine like a 5 year old girl when they get caught. I'm certainly not saying you were, but I've seen so many people on this board who order CC's and get caught and then wine about it. I guess we were looking at two differentr issues.
I do see your point about the rule not being enforced. I rememeber just a few weeks ago when someone mentioned a well known vendor by name. If there is going to be this rule, it should be enforced. If it's not going to be enforced, just get rid of it.

I have to chimed in on a few of these discussion, but given my views and temperment on the subject, it's best I avoid most. Here is what just makes me laugh. This board spends all this time and verbage, protecting the annonymity of sources, still all the while the sources themselves openly and blattetly advertise "we ship to the" U.S.. If a person on this board is openly stating there involement in such activity, at best it is really only raising the possiblity of drawing attention to themselves( or should I say thier made up handle) , not this board and not the source. What could be the outcome of that? Well, I guess they could Subpoena C.A. to realease registration record of the posters here that claims such activity, launch an investigation, obtain a search warrant of thier property and then file and indictment. Sound pretty far fetched? Of course it does. theres not a law inforcement agentcy in the U.S. that gives a $hit if I order a box or two here and there. Sure they may nab a few at the border coming in, but if they really needed a target to go after, then most vendors show them the bullseye
