When I first started in golf, I bought a brand new driver for $17. After about 300 or so balls at the driving range, it cracked on the upper edge of where the face of the club meets the body.

That's exactly where mine got broken. Did you bother with fixing it or did you just throw it?

No way I could have fixed it unless I am a welder, but even then, I'm not sure if it could be welded since it might not be all metal. After noticing the crack, I kept driving it until I completely broke the top off Wink. It was only $17.

I guess it broke mainly due to the bad raw material used to make it and bad construction, but some of it might also be due to my bad technique as a beginner.

Yes, I think my bad technique as a beginner has a lot to do with what happened.
The instructor told me he has a "special golf clubs glue" that he would use on them, of course I know he will just use some UHU or something and will rip me off, but I have no other choice.

I just bought a set of Pings and sadly The shaft broke... This was two days after I bought it.. It slipped from my hand and hit a tree. I brought it back to Golf Smith to be fixed and they gave me a new one to my utter surprise....

Were you using "persimmon" heads on the driving range...? Range balls are hard as rocks, and the persimmon that is used in the woods these days (well, over the past 20 years, anyway) isn't strong enough to handle the impact, no matter how weak the swing, and especially if you're not hitting the ball 'on the screws' as they say. Mishit a persimmon wood and it will break. Yes, that happened to me!! Clubhead (half of it, anyway) went further than the ball.

If you mishit a metal-wood, it can break, too, especially if it's not a 'name brand' club.

Buy less cigars. Invest in lessons. By your pictures, you need some help!

I tossed a sand wedge playing in Mexico once...into a lake. A local kid came up to me 4 holes later with wet pants and shoes, and the wedge in hand. I appreciate the effort...gave him a good tip. Still have the wedge...an old Snake Eyes...original grind. Great stick. I was all ready to go back to my '69 Haig Ultra SW that was my stick for years before the Snake Eyes...but I remain suitably impressed with the Snake Eyes. But I digress.

ryj, can you point out specifically what you see wrong in my swing from the pictures? I want as much expert advice as I can get. I really love the game and want to learn it the right way.

Your arms break down and aren't extended, your weight is all over the place and is unbalanced, your swing plane is off...from what I see in the pictures anyway. I'm no pro, and for details, you really should see a pro.

One thing I do see is that your chin looks like it gets caught in your shoulder in the backswing...as a result, your head gets pulled away from center...so your point of impact will be difficult to control. Try to turn your shoulders UNDER your chin and keep your head steady. Your legs and hips should load and unload, but your upper torso should stay centered, too. The more you move off the ball, the less consistent your point of impact will be. And golf is about consistency in your swing, and making that same swing or same sort of swing over and over. If your head moves off the ball, or you slide back or forth during the swing, you increase the number of variables that undermine consistency.

Look at Ian Woosnam's swing. Back. Forth. Follow through. No moving parts.

My pro tells me I'm too close to the ball. AFTER I hit it.

I glued the woods today using Bison Epoxy. It comes in two tubes, you mix them togther and use them. Looks like a very strong glue and the clubs look good, but will only be sure by actual use.

I will be amazed if that works, really can't imagine being able to glue golf clubs back together. I once threw a 5 iron into a tree, no damage. Anyone else hit a golf ball so hard that it split in two? ..I've done that 4 times recently, must be a dodgy set of golf balls.

I am going to the course now and we will see. Notice that the shaft did not get broken, what happened is that the shaft itself got separated from the club head. I filled the pit in the clubhead into which the shaft goes with glue and stuck the shaft deep in. If it was a broken shaft it would have been impossible to glue.

Just picked up my Cleaveland Hybore XL from GOlfsmith. 2nd round out I actually cracked the crown and put a dent in it, near the toe. Took a month, but Cleaveland put a new head on it for nothing

Never broke one. May have bent one in ground a couple of times. Came real close to wrapping one around a tree but figured I needed it for the next shot.

Range balls are like rocks, and it's not a good idea to hit your persimmon woods (or any other wood...) at the range. That's where the wood breaks, even if you hit the ball pure and on the screws. The strata-block woods are a different story, because they're laminated layers of wood that hold up better. But still...

I have some old MacGregor's that are gorgeous...and I played them for a while back in the mid-80's...the feel was as sweet as the look. Wouldn't dream of hitting a 2-piece ball with them.
