I played at Pawley's Plantion in Myrtle Beach,SC this weekend (heat index of 110). Its a Jack Nickalus course and I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone... expect for the 13th hole. That hole ate me up, but I was blaming it on the heat.
I made the turn in +3 and then the 13th par 3 (69yrd. island green) and the heat made the wheels fall off.
The heat was totally impossible to play.
But, I was out there to teach my father in law how to play, which was all I could ask for.
You know how you can tell a good golf course from an "okay" golf course... When you use EVERY club in the bag and still wish you had a couple more. It felt like Jack Nickalus and I went toe-to-toe for 18 holes. For the first time in a long time, I was playing the course and not competing against myself. I love courses like that.
Saturday, I was terrible. It was like I was in a fog all day and just couldn't get going (no, I wasn't "hungover" from Friday night)...hit the ball bad the entire round, short game was non-existant, didn't make any putts, and stunk it up with an 80, my highest score so far this year.
Sunday, I hit the ball a lot better but still didn't make any putts and shot 74. I made only two birdies but both were inside of four feet...missed another one from about four feet on the 1st hole of the day. Throw in a couple of three putts and it made for another long day with the flat stick. My buddy sank putts from everywhere and finished with five birdies on the day but only beat me by one stroke, shooting a 73. I keep warning him that if I ever learn how to putt...

I guess that's one good thing about living in Nature's Air Conditioned City...never have to worry about REAL heat. Heck, when the temp reaches 90* at the local airport, the Chamber of Commerce gives away free lemonade...
