I grew up in Jersey and go back every year to visit family in the Toms River area. I normally just play the local muni's like Bey-Lea and Lakewood, but I'm looking to expand a bit. Can you suggest some good courses, preferably in the central Jersey area?

Seaview Resort near AC has some nice courses. There is Sand Barrens in Avalon. Jumping Brook in Neptune. Architects in Lackawana. Round Brook is around White House. These are all public and a step up from munis. There apparently are a whole bunch of new high end daily fee courses near the shore around AC. I've not played them.

have played Architects many times and its in phillipsburg. Actually my old HS hockey coach owns the course so I get to go whenever I want and play for freee. Great course great facilities highly recommend to anyone from the jersey or PA area.

pine valley, just kidding

i agree with Architects course which i myself made a special trip to NJ to play and considered it worth the trip (and if the german deli down the hill from it is still there AND you like german food well that deli is a plus !)

i just don't know if that is considered central NJ Tom's River area

shawn, some of the monmouth county courses are very highly regarded. one in particular is hominy hills. also, down 78 before th architects exit are high bridge hills and beaverbrook. navesink (sp?) is great as well and they have a callaway fitting center there. if you are willing to provide the in round smokes i'd entertain having you at my place in edison, nj where they are hosting the 2011 barclays...plainfield cc

Try Pine Hill. I played there a few years ago. Very nice course, but it may be a little far from Toms River.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Leaving Tuesday, so I'll start looking at tee times within the next couple of days.
