I just started playing this wonderful game. I live in Phoenix AZ kinda hard not to see a golf course every other block literally. But me and my dad have been going to the range just to get our swing down. Today I started swinging the golf ball more straight and further with my 8 and 7 iron. I thought maybe I had my swing down a bit. Well I tried the 1 wood and no luck. It was horrible. Real bad hook. I thought the same swing with the irons could be applied to the woods in a sense. Guess not. Any tips or insight is welcomed.
I have the same problem. My iron swing is pretty good (apart from the occassional slice every once in a while) but my woods shot is a horrible horrible slice 99% of the time. The slice is so strong that sometimes I think the ball would just make a 360 degrees turn and hit me in the face.

As my former golf pro boss used to tell his buddies when they would come to him with swing problems...
Pro - "Sounds like you have a 'loft' problem..."
His buddy - "A 'loft' problem, what's that?"
Pro - "You know, LOFT, lack of f*****g talent..."
Seriously though, it is a loft problem...clubs with more loft are easier to hit/control than clubs with less loft. That is why you hit your #7 iron better than you can hit your driver.
