I just ordered a new set of iron, well, they are pre-used, but new for me anyway.

Someone here (can't remember who but I thank him very much) referred me to the Callaway pre-owned website, and I have been looking, with my golf buddy, for a good set at a good price.

We finally got lucky with a set of Callaway X-14 irons (3-PW, Average condition) from the clearence centre for $182, and free shipping.

It should arrive in CT in a few days, then my friend will get it back with him by mid September. Can't wait to get down the course with them!!

Anybody tried these? I heard they were very good, best selling Callaway irons. Give me reviews guys if you have experience with them.

It's not the putter...it's the putter. It's not the equipment...it's the person using it.

The equipment is only good if it makes you feel comfortable. When it comes to the top brands, they all need to be competitive...whether for pros, for low handicappers, or for hacks...so the difference is all a matter of feel, more than anything.

You'll be pleased. You picked those over other sets, they didn't cost too much, so go with it, use them well and often.

Kind of like the story...the only bad equipment is that which you don't use.

I'd say the X-14's are good irons for someone who's beginning to play. They have nice wide soles and Callaway certainly makes good equipment. Actually they're probably good clubs for just about anyone!

IMO you're better off hitting something like these instead of those "super-game-improvement" irons that are out on the shelves. I think beginners that purchase those do themselves a dis-service because you can't properly learn how to strike an iron with them. So, in other words, GOOD CHOICE.

Lucky,
I would highly recommend getting new grips. At around $3-4 per club, it's well worth it. They are easy to put on.

TSF, one of the things that made me very eager to buy from Callaway preowned website is that they regrip all the clubs that are turneds in to them before selling them again. Which is pretty awesome. They also test them for any bends, major scratches or any other factor that would affect their playability. There is a 10 points checklist that all the clubs have to pass before they sell them again.

Until now they have had offered very good service. The shipping is free, the price is amazing, the clubs, as far as they claim, are refurbished and checked and tried before being sold and the package has already left Texas now as I can see on the FedEx tracking page. Till now everything is great. Will have to wait to see the actual merchandise to make a full judgment, but I am excited about it.

I thought you might be better better served with a bag full of sand wedges...bada bing.

I kid. Those are a nice set of irons, and like previously mentioned, get new grips! It's like getting new tires for your car, or new shoes on your feet. Just the feel gives you confidence.

Callaway makes a great set of clubs. I highly recommend getting fitted at Callaway if it's at all possible. It cost me $50 to get fitted at their Carlsbad CA fitting room. Will go back when I am in the market for a new set of clubs.
