Been a bit under the weather after hurting my back a couple of months ago. Today was a buddy's birthday and we decided to go golfing. Last night, though, my back was hurting so bad I wasn't sure I could hack it. And as we tee'd off, it was feeling no better. I figured that I'd suffer through the round, take it easy...but as I did that, I would hit the ball improperly, chunking my shots, hitting them fat, and the shock was causing more pain! The solution? More cowbell.
All of a sudden the swing started working and my back felt good! The first 5 holes were terrible. But after that...I played 6, 7, 8, and 9 at 2 over...and if the ball had rolled a half-turn more on a couple of putts, I would have been even for those 4 holes. And the stroke continued on the back 9! I was hitting the ball long, controlled the flight pattern, making it move how and where I wanted, hitting my irons crisply, making the ball stop on the green...it was great. Ended up 3 over on the back 9 (including a couple more putts that would have dropped if the greens were a just a touch faster). I had not played a round of golf in at least 5 - 6 months, so it was encouraging.
Front nine, I smoked an INCREDIBLE Cohiba Sublimes...that came directly from the bench at one of the prominent Havana factories and that had not yet been trimmed to length. It was amazing. On the back, I sparked a salomone someone made for me a few years back, and it was just as amazing. Couple of great cigars, some great golf, good company, and I can still walk (which is a good thing).
I also learned an important lesson: There are THREE types of people in the world...those who are good at math...and those who aren't.
