Yeah of course, this course, along with Cairo's Gezira Club course and my very own Alexandria Sporting Club course are the 3 oldest golf courses in Egypt. Until recently they were the only courses as well, but now Egypt has seen an increase in golf courses, we have around 16 now I think.
This course is a 9 holes course though, not 18. The Gezira Club course used to be 18 holes until it was trimmed down to 9 holes after 1952 in favor to a youth sports centre, and it was trimmed even more in the 70's to make way to the October causeway that penetrates Cairo from one end to another. Today it stands at 9 holes, but somehow they manage to play it 18 holes. I haven't been there before, but someone told me they have two flags on each green and two tee markers so you get to play each hole in two ways or something like that. My own course is the only course that remained untouched since it was created in the late 1800's, even though it was in a plan to be turned to housing projects, but thanks to the efforts of the club's president back then that project was canceled.
As for that course featured in the article, I have never played there. I was planning to play there last February, but unfortunately when I called to book my tee time, I was told it was going to be closed for renovation starting 31st January, and will be closed for at least a year.
Playing there and in Gezira is on my have to do list in the near future. These are the only courses I can play without having to pay too much green fees, because anywhere else is overpriced like ****! ($100 to start with)
