A man should be allowed to beat to death with a 1 iron, any person who allows their pager or cell phone to go off. You should also be allowed to hit approach shots at guys who don't fix their ball marks.
According to a friend who is an assistant greens keeper at Congressional, who also has a degree in agronomy & turf grass management, a repaired pitch mark will heal in a week if promptly & properly fixed. If you wait an hour the healing time doubles. If you wait a day the healing time doubles again.
Mangos plopping for 9 holes; waves crashing for another 9 holes; and Gilligan's Island lagoon for 9 holes. That IS a spectacular place.

I haven't played many top notch courses, but I can say Pacific Dunes (as are all 3 courses at Bandon) is absolutely breathtaking. If you go, book an early tee time (6:30am) it's the best. But make sure you book the afternoon tee time as well (1pm) if you really want to experience the Bandon winds.
BTW, I have a friend who plays Pine Valley every year and loves it. Says it's by far the hardest course he's ever played.
I have a few courses in the area that are incredible. One course in Amenia, NY is called Silo Ridge. It is kept up like a private course but it is public. The other course that I love to play is Crytal Springs in NJ. That is part of the "trio" that someone else wrote about in another post.

Get on your knees and beg for a chance to play Firestone, South Course. Stay a night in the club house rooms. Finish a round on the best course in America and enjoy the rest of the day in the mens locker room. Cigar in hand and lies about your round.

And after the round enjoy a martini on the deck in the old wooden rockers while watching others finish their round. It doesn't get much better. My room had a walk out patio looking over the lake with fog over the water...it was heaven. However, my game was horrible!

Just played there Wednesday...6200 from the whites, and its a bear to play! Loved it and got out with a 93. They had just punched the greens so they were a little rough. Played the original course...awesome!
Hole #17 is wicked! We played it from the tips just for kicks!

Just returned from the Cigar Association of America meeting in Hot Springs, Virginia. I need to add the Cascades course to my list of favorites. It's gorgeous, with weeping willows, plenty of mountain views, tricky, sloped fairways and very fast greens. Lots of bunkers, too. About all I can say about my round is I parred two holes.

That's a good track...played it last year. The Homestead Hotel ain't too bad, neither. Nice cigar friendly lounge and sports bar.
My career affords me the opportunity to live and travel in some very nice areas, primarily coastal regions. I've played alot of the Florida courses (Sawgrass, Doral, Bay Hill), some of the western NC courses (Pinehurst #2,4 and 8, and Pine Needles) and numerous course in Myrtle Beach, SC but my favorite course to play would be the Ocean Course at Kiawah....the ocean views alone are worth the price of admission.
bulle rock golf club site of the LPGA championship is a fantastic course layout
Come again? You know I don't speak Spanish. In English, please. What? You pooped in the refrigerator? And you ate the whole... wheel of cheese? How'd you do that? I'm not even mad, that's amazing.

I assume this will soon be a favorite of mine. A group of co-workers and our spouses are vacationing in Mexico (Iberostar All-Inclusive Resort) in May and we are definitely looking forward to it! Check out the "Photo Gallery" tab if you get a chance. WOW!!!
Not sure if my game is worthy of a course like this, but you only live once right?
