I would agree...that is the most ellusively exclusive course that most all golfers dream of playing...it isn't like Pebble Beach or the Old Course where you can just reserve a tee time and go play...

maybe the course is a "dream" but i can't see being comfortable there, given the circumstances

who wants to play at a place where you may be invited, but are not welcome ? - it just doesn't sound like much fun to me

i think i could survive sleepy hollow, the history, the bar, the membership (including bill murray), the hudson, the seasons, not to mention a C B macdonald masterpiece - yup that would do it for me

No doubt. There may be tougher courses to get on, but none with the mystique of Augusta.

I've played a number of great courses: Harbour Town, Pinehurst No.2, Torrey Pines (years ago), but I've never even seen Augusta in person. So my first dream is to actually go to the Masters, 2nd and highly unlikely is to play the course.

I'd have to say Augusta or Cypress Point. Both are MacKenzie gems (play Pasatiempo if you want just a taste). Pine Valley is also a contender (live in NJ, so might actually get to play that one someday). Have driven by Cypress...its like Pebble without the houses or the crowds. Rented a cottage in Carmel once that belonged to a member...got to check out the member book...a who's who of Corporate America, politics, sports, and entertainment.

Have played Pebble, Pinehurst, Ocean, National, Winged Foot and Baltusrol, plus some PGA and LPGA tour courses. Lately, have been more focussed on improving my game than collecting scorecards and shirts/hats from trophy courses. Guess I'm a real golfer now, and no longer a tourist golfer.

see, what i was looking for, was for you guys to be more sentimental - any monkey can say augusta - truth is, if i couldn't bring my friends along, i wouldn't go - and if i could bring them, i couldn't play, because the idiots that they are would do something to get us kicked out before we ever even teed it up on the first hole

anyway hit em straight

Being from the land of Bobby Jones, its got to be "The National" as they call it in Augusta. My father-in-law taught high school math many years ago to one of the board members and got an invite a few years back. The only problem is that the course is closed over the summer, so when that once in a lifetime call comes, it may be dead in the middle of winter.
I have heard, your best chance at getting on the course and at the most favorable time is to volunteer for the "toon-a-mint". Volunteers get to play a round shortly after the Masters event. I am sure the volunteer list is as long or longer than the badge list, but it's still probably your best chance.
