My first, I was 12 years old. Luckily my friend and I caught up with a threesome, so I had 4 witnesses on the teebox (all under the age of 14). 3 iron, 150 yds
My second was last year, 30 years later with my twin sons. They were 15 at the time. So, 2 aces and no adult witnesses in my group. 60 degree wedge, 105 yds (downhill).

No aces, but 3 eagles, 2 in a 4 month span...the last from 120, first cut, right side, Pebble Beach #18...flier lie, pitching wedge. Gave up the game right then and there (not really, but should have)! Was just finishing up a wonderful Monte A, made par at 17 with a 2 iron off the tee that came up short, day before x-mas eve. I can still taste the cigar, and can see the ball bouncing into the cup. Witnessed by the caddie for the day (a guy named Ray from Isle of Wight), along with a dozen or so Japanese tourists who happened to be walking along the side of the fairway stopping to take a look. I even had a cigar caddy...wife who was walking the course with me. And a couple from Japan who were playing in the group. It doesn't get much better than that...
Posted an 82 that day...even with the eagle. Had a bit of a problem on holes 8 and 9...and missed some easy putts or, rather, putts that seemed to be easy. But there, the break is not always as it seems.
Still waiting for that ace...
(other eagles: 8-iron from 150-ish at Ojai Valley; 7-iron from 165 playing with dad at Rancho Park)

An eagle at Pebble, priceless. The pine/or cypress (depending on the date) must have been in play on that shot the way you describe it. I played Pebble once, at no 7, we played that hole from the pro's teebox (about 105 yds). We hit 8 tee shots, not one hit the green!

Actually it wasn't in play...that affects the setup for the second shot, so it's an issue off the tee. First shot went to the right of the tree. Once you get by the tree, it's the approach that matters from there on out. Par 5. So...I had a 4-wood in hand for the second shot, but had been pulling it all day for some reason...a little over the top. So I thought to myself, "don't hook it here..." otherwise it's in the drink...and so I left my second shot a little right, into the first cut of the rough, about 120 to the green. Caddy said it was a flier lie and to watch it jump, and I had already accounted for that. Took a nice steep descent and struck the ball clean, jumped a little bit, but went where I aimed. Bounced once, and then a second time, and right into the cup! Lucky, I know...but sometimes luck is good.
7 can play tough, depending on the wind. I have had the fortune to play a number of times, and I've hit a sand wedge, and I've punched a short 6 iron. Went over with the sand wedge, and short with the 6...big headwind. Go figure!
Back to the important thing. The Monte A!!

I've never had the extreme good fortune to have made a 'hole in one' but I did hit a 140yd 8i for an eagle earlier this year. Had the wife with and when I asked her where the ball went 'cause I didn't see it on the green anymore, she said "I wasn't paying attention"
[North Korean Dictator] Kim Jong II is officially the worst cheater in golf history. He recently signed a card and took credit for shooting a 39 over 18 holes including 5 holes in one in one round and several eagles on a par 72, regulation length course. His "free press" now tout it as legend and sluff it off as fact.

My one and only ace was 10 years ago in a tournament at the Manzanita Golf Course on the Oregon coast. #7 hole, 210 yards, 3 iron. The green can barely be seen from the tee because the fairway rises. I hit the ball as sweet, clean, and straight as they come. We walked up to the green and saw a ball back on the fringe behind the green. I placed a tee in the ground and we all lined up to chip. One of our guys tended the flag just in case someone chipped in. Turns out the ball we were preparing to chip wasn't mine but one that came from #5 up on a cliff. The guy tending the pin looked down in the cup and said, "There's a ball in the cup...what is everyone playing?" Well, I was playing a Titleist 3. That's what was in the cup. We were about to attempt a chip shot with a Precept. I ran two laps around the green and my team won the tournament. True story.
I never had one, but witnessed a friend hit one. A long par 3, with a five iron from the tee, it rolled up and went in the hole. Randy was standing there looking for it on the green and the other three of us are whooping and hollering saying, "Hole in ONE!" He just smiles and says, "That's nice." It was his first ace, and he was a scratch golfer (a real scratch golfer), and he took it calmly. He said he has had several eagles and two double eagles in his life.
quote:
Definition: A double eagle is a score of three under par on any individual hole. Double eagles are extremely rare, more rare, in fact, than aces. To record a double eagle, a player would have to ace a par-4 hole or make a 2 on a par-5 hole.

Sorry, but I call BS on the 2 double eagles. Maybe he meant double bogies, being a scratch golfer and all...

Call BS all you want, that doesn't change a thing...he is about the only guy I would believe with that story.
He is a great guy...shot down in Vietnam five times (Army helo pilot) and evaded, switched to the USN, fighter pilot, Blue Angel, and Squadron CO. Retired now, so can play golf all he wants.

That means an ace on a par 4, or a 2 on a par 5. A par 5 is going to be at least 475. He sounds like an extraordinary individual...apart from golf, too.

The world is a better place for exceptional people.
And 2 dbl eagles? Not only would one be privileged to play a round of golf with someone like that, but I wouldn't mind hearing some stories at the 19th hole...! I had a friend who was a Marine and won a Navy Cross at the seige at Khe Sahn, as his health dwindled because of Agent Orange poisoning, I made sure to listen.

Ninth hole at a course in the Cayman Islands, 9 iron, 119 yards. I didn't feel like I hit it that great but it went in.
That was ten years ago (when I was 20) and I have not had one since.

I don't intend to hijack this thread, so this is just an aside...
I agree about exceptional people. I saw an elderly gentleman come in to a restaurant where I was having lunch. I noticed his license plate said "Jug Pilot". I made my way over and politely asked him if he flew P-47 Thunderbolts. He smiled and said he flew them in WWII in Italy and Corsica. I shook his hand and thanked him, and told him I wanted to hear his stories...I hope I see him on the links!

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon in Ohio, June 2006...
On the Par 3 139yd 7th I hit a perfect 9 iron... over the water.. on the green, bounce, bounce, rolling to the stick then my ball vanished. Thank God I had witnesses.
My round gets better..
Par 4 10th hole about 380 - 400 yards. My drive leaks off to the right of the fairway slightly into the rough. I have about 160 - 165 to the hole so I pull out my 6 iron. Swing, its away.. going straight to the green.. lands on the front with little spin... rolling, rolling to the flag and the ball vanishes AGAIN. EAGLE 2 on a par 4.
I had the right speed each time as not to come in to hot and bounce off the stick each time. So its good to be lucky with a little mix of skill.

Never got a hole in one, but I got 6 inches from the pin on the 4th hole at Maidstone. 170yd into heavy wind with a 6 iron. That was probably one of my best shots ever. %90 skill %10 luck...Wait...Scratch that. Reverse it.

Yeah, but did you make the putt?
Me, I had a hole in one on the par 3 course in Summit, NJ. Think it was the 6th hole (about 70yds). Hit the 60 deg wedge perfectly. It landed softly and rolled in. My brother, a few years earlier, had one on the same hole...he sculled his wedge, cursed, turned away, and it rolled right in. He never saw it.
I know its only a par 3 course (longest hole is 170yds), but I count it all the same...
Hole in one on a par 3 course thats weak O Man.How can you claim that.I'm just bustin your balls you always bust on OSU so i thought i would bust on your "hole in one".
