So, I went to the lesson last Saturday, which was a very sunny fine day after 2 weeks of rain and 6-7 C temperature!! We started by doing some stretches, then how to hold the club and then how to swing. Then I started by taking some drives. Man, and I though golf was easy. Seeing someone play is a thing, trying to take a drive yourself is something entirely else. Out of more than 30 tries, I only managed to do 6 or 7 correctly, man, I hope that gets better. I am just loving it. Can't wait for next lesson on Tuesday. And I didn't even pay that much for it. 22 Egyptian pounds, that's around $5 for an hour of golf.

Went again today. This time we started practicing swings right away, without putting the ball on the "T" thing. There is an improvement in my swing and in the shot, but still a long way to go. Then we moved on to the "Green" area and started making "puts" or what is it called?

Hey, you're more than welcome, I'd love to have a partner to play with. Actually the $5 are for a one hour lesson with an instructor, but you pay nothing for practicing with yourself, or playing a couple of holes with your friends. You just need to pay for a caddy, and even that's optional. But that's for members of the club, for non members you'd need to pay something. Only I am living in Alexandria, not Giza. But it's just a 2 hours drive.

Even better. I have wanted t go to Egypt since I was like 7. I am sure I'd stick out like a sore thumb though If you don't mind me saying, your English is very good. So how is golfing in Egypt? Are the courses nice?

Golf is a sport that is gaining popularity quickly in Egypt. There used to be very few courses in Egypt, but recently more and more courses are being built, specially in the Cairo suburbs. There are several courses now in Cairo, in Louxor and in Sharm Al Sheik. There is also a new course being built on mountain tops in a Red Sea resort called Porto Sokhna, in a place called Ein Al Sohkna. This one would just be marvelous. Unfortunately in Alexandria there is only one course (I was wrong about the presence of another one earlier) and it's one of the oldest in Egypt: The Alexandria Sporting Club. It's a social multi purpose club, but Golf constitutes most of it's area. It was built in the late 1800's. http://www.golfworldmap.com/africa/egypt/alexandriaspor...29.93333458900452,16http://www.memphistours.com/golflocation/Alexandria.php

Wow, so much more to do in Egypt other than see the sphinx Yeah, my golf game isn't great thats for sure. However, I am oddly blessed with the straightest swing ever. It is completely natural and I can't claim it is skills. I just really need to work on my chipping and distance. I think distance will come with time, but chipping makes me want to throw my clubs into the water hazard. How is the tourism in Egypt anyway? As an American should I go or stay away? I really have always wanted to go. Now I do even more.

I was there today and for some reason the course was PACKED!! There were lots of foreigners too. We usually see at least 3-4 foreigners on the course every day, mostly Americans and Japanese, but today it was really packed with both foreigners and nationals that I couldn't practice any swings after the lesson time. The practice area is limited and when the pros usually see a n00b swinging they just don't care and get in the field and start swinging themselves. Out of respect for the elders you can't do anything but just move away and let space. I usually like to go early to avoid this, I'll try going at 11:00 Am tomorrow.

That sounds like a shame. There is no way I would want to even give the hint of disrespecting your culture of respecting elders. More should try it here But anyway, here it is more of a first come first serve thing. Unless I suppose they have a specific reservation time for a driving range spot which I have never heard of. I am sorry that you got booted off! However, that was very nice of you to move out of the way for the elders. If that is how the "pros" act there I would say they take the pro out of professional. Just my humble opinion.

It's not really bad. I could've played beside him, but then our balls would mix and it'd be a fuss. I'll go tomorrow and tell you what I've done.
