Either that, or just hit the shti out of the ball and hope for the best, while enjoying a nice walk on the grass, a beer, and a few cigars during the 4 or so hour trek...
Get in, shut up, hang on, grip it, rip it, chase it, scramble, take the 'gimme' and have a beer...maximum score 6 on any hole, and you are assured of a fun time.

Just kidding
I have had my fair share of experiences with these things and have found them to be useful in certain situations. I personally like just using the makers that the courses have put on the fairway and picking a club from me judgment. I know a lot of people that use these things and i for one am not a big fan but other people this a vital part of their game.
I am a feel player. I look at the green and the 200/150/100 and am confident with what I should hit. However, I now own a SkyCaddie. I played regularly with a guy who is fairly new to the game and has all the gadgets, which is how I was turned on to the device. I have been playing for years, the Caddie is valuable and worth the money. Especially when you place a course for the first time.
I agree - it's worth the $$. I don't have one, but I regularly play with a few guys that do. It's especially helpful when playing form another fairway, which I do more often that I prefer.
