After playing a public course interstate with a mate who is off 11 and hiring a set of clubs that were over 20 years old and not one club was of the same make!!! and the putter must have been used as a sledge hammer in its previous life he shot a 12 over round. So can clubs make so much difference?!

Have a go ya MUG!

I think they do, yes, specially with a good golfer.

I agree with Lucky...In the right hands, clubs that have been designed to take advantage of technology can prove to be very useful. A player who knows what type of technology they should take advantage of (like cavity backed mid-sized irons) will improve when putting them into play.

However, with that said, someone who is close to a single digit handicap (like your mate) can use a variety of different club types and probably get a relatively similar result at the start. The fact is, he's good at the game and has developed the skills to a point where clubs definitely make a difference, but only over time. Although he's talented, he wouldn't be expected to get a brand new set of "players" irons and automatically better his game. However, over time the clubs will give him confidence and more versatility, which will make him a better player.

Yes. The game is extremely hard without them.

If I got new clubs, what would I have to blame my bad shots on? Confused

I use my grandpa's old Wilson Staff clubs. Maybe I'll get titanium when it's worth it to me, but these clubs feel good and get me where I need to be.
