I am considering taking golf lessons. However, I would like to know how helpful lessons have been to the folks here on the board. How much does it really improve your game? Should beginners take lessons?
R&C, I've only been playing a couple of years now and did not take lessons, and I have a friend that just started lessons this year and I must say that he is much more consistant than me. If you just go out and start swinging clubs, you'll develop bad habits, like me, that are hard to break. They say hind-sight is 20/20, and in this case, I wish I would have spent the money and taken lessons from a pro before I started playing. I've also found out that when you're on the course, everyone around you suddenly becomes a pro and starts giving you advice when you make a bad shot. I'm sure you've heard the old saying, "Practice makes perfect", but in this case it should be, "Perfect practice makes perfect." Spend the money and take the lessons.
