We just finished our Club Championship this afternoon. It was a 54-hole event in which we played a "qualifying round" last weekend then 36-holes (18 each day) this weekend.
I played my qualifying round last Sunday after returning from vacation and shot 75. That put me in 8th place, seven shots back of the leader, a 20-year old who will be starting his second year at the Golf Academy of America in Myrtle Beach, SC, next week, who shot 68.
I shot 73 in yesterday's second round. The leader also shot 73 and I was still seven shots back but had moved up to 5th place.
Today, I shot another 75 and leap-frogged everyone but the leader, who shot 80 and ended up beating me by two strokes, 221-223.
Putting absolutely killed me. I had four three putts in the first round and two more today but I also missed three other putts from less than four feet today too. I hit the ball great this weekend just could not get the flat stick working good enough to get the ball in the hole...VERY FRUSTRATING.
Oh well, I don't guess losing to a kid that's half my age is too awfully bad. Maybe next year...

I regret the fact that I didn't get to play with him yesterday when he shot 80 (being in 5th place, I was in the group in front of him). Things could have played out differently, if we had been paired together...he may have choked a little more seeing how I was gaining ground on him or I may have taken a little more time with some of those three-footers I missed. But if I had putted better, it wouldn't have been an issue.
Oh well, I guess this is payback for him in some ways...I beat him for the Match Play Club Championship last summer.
