I used to love the game of golf more than just about anything. I would read all the golf magazines, watch the golf channel, and basically had golf on my mind 24/7. I would play 2 or 3 days a week and more on vacation weeks.
Work, marriage, kids, and life in general just got in the way. I have only been playing 2 or 3 times per season for the past 7 or 8 years. I still watched the majors on TV, but I didn't really have the time or energy to get excited about the game like I used to. Needless to say, my game had really deteriorated.
This summer, we joined a club out near our summer house because that is where we are during most of our free time during the golf season. I am happy to say that I got that excitement back again. The instructors at our club are phenomenal, and I really feel my game is coming back to me. I'm not anywhere near where I was when I stopped playing, but my swing is starting to feel "right" again.
Heres a quote from the club's website:
"The Coore/ Crenshaw team carved the 6,400 yard, 18-hole course out of an already impressive pastoral landscape. The front nine is an old links style course that imbues classic golf with tall depths of wispy Fescue. An added challenge on this nine is the potential to be faced with unpredictable strong prevailing winds. When turning onto the back nine the player is faced with tight tree lined fairways which have a natural undulating landscape that requires endurance and thoughtful placement. The natural rustic nature of the course endures through all 18 holes."
What I can add is that the greens are very fast, and in many cases, small. It is a tougher course than the ones on which I originally learned and played. I am loving the links style front nine, as it poses a whole different set of challenges than the ones I face on my local courses in North Jersey.
Anyway, now that I feel this game consuming me again, I just thought I would share the experience.

Played the other day. Most unenjoyable round of golf in a while. It was a Wednesday morning and our rounds usually take just over 3 hours....this one was 4.5 hours. Waited 5 minutes on ever shot. Made me wish I was at a private course.
Are you gonna bark all day little doggy, or are you gonna bite?

Having a private course sounds great. I played Darlington on Friday and all of their hype about 2 years of renovation were crap. 3 temporary greens, bare patches on other greens, fariways with rocks in them....it was horrible. I usually end up going up to Orange Co. NY to play Central Valley or Warwick, NY.

Had a great game today. Two friend and myself golfed Dundarave on PEI today. Google it if you aren't familiar. What a great course and a great day. It's all the better that I only live 5 minutes away from the course.

Ive taken this week off. I plan on playing every day if the weather holds up. I couldn't believe it was 85 degrees in the northeast today. I can hardly wait to get out on the course again tomorrow.

Well, Iv'e been playing in the fog and rain the past few days on the eastern end of Long Island. At least it's not cold too.
When I showed up at the club today in the middle of a mild rainstorm, the look on my caddy's face was priceless. By the 12th hole it had stopped raining and it almost looked like the sun was trying to shine through. I shot a 101, which I am not upset about due to the weather. I just hope it's sunny tomorrow.
