You probably already know this, but your backswing is too long and you need to work on your balance.

I have tried to shorten my back swing but I just can't, I got used to swinging the club this way, when I try to make a shorter back swing that involves more shoulder movement I can usually hit the ball but not comfortably and not as long as I do with my normal swing. I don't know whats the negatives of such long back swing, I don't think it affects my shot in a bad way.

As for the balance thing, I know. I can never keep my left foot straight, it just has to slip during the follow-through. I don't have golf shoes, maybe that's why, but then maybe not.

You CAN shorten your back swing and you CAN keep your feet still...you just haven't worked on it enough. And you don't need golf shoes to keep your feet still, but wouldn't hurt.

Changing your swing is really tough...but balance and control create consistency...which is waaaaaay more important than power. And hitting the ball square generates a ton more distance than your swing speed. Did you watch the Masters this weekend? Did you happen to notice that Tiger rarely takes the club back to parallel anymore...never with an iron.

And I've seen guys hit balls 250 yds standing on one foot and never lose their balance. If you'll work on these two thing on the range you'll be amazed at the payoff.

A great balance drill is hitting a five iron standing with your feet together. Play the ball off your left toe, if you're right handed, and swing as full as you can without losing your balance. If you lose your balance, swing easier.

I crush the ball. I routinely hit drives over 300 yards. I hit my 9 iron 150+. I rarely take a full swing. I hit all my irons with a 3/4 swing. It takes time to learn, but I hit more greens and I haven't lost any distance.

The driver is another story. When it's good, it's really good. When I stray, it's freaquently stroke and distance. But that's what happens when you hit the ball long. If you're one degree off, you're in the woods, not just in the rough.

HEY!!! Does anyone beside me think OB is one of the dumbest rules in golf? Hit the ball 6 inchs on the wrong side of a white stake and you get the worst stroke penalty in golf. Utter nonsense IMO >:-[

Yeah I noticed how pros on the PGA never get their back swing to the max like I do, and I always wonder how they do that and still manage to get great distances. I will try doing that more the next time I go.
