Has anyone tried the Ping G10 irons? I think I need to go to game improvement irons after playing blades for 40 years. Any input on game improvement (forgiving clubs) would be appreciated.
Good thread. I got my last clubs when I was still growing and now they're too short. I need to get some new ones.

Titleist 992 irons, Nicklaus 5 wood, Taylor Made R7 driver 9.0 stiff, also a Big Bertha steelhead 9.0 driver for a dogleg left (due to a heavy draw, I am a lefty)

This winter I traded in most of my clubs for new ones. I now carry the TaylorMade R7 Superquad driver 9.5 stiff, TaylorMade R7 ti 3 wood (stiff), Titleist AP2 irons (Project X 5.5), Cleveland Hi-bore 2 iron hybrid, Cleveland cg11 wedges (52 & 56), and an Odyssey White Steel #5 putter.
I simply can not say enough about the new Titleist irons. They really may be the best irons ever made to date. I know as soon as they hit the market (actual prior to that in many cases) many players on tour switched to these. They are a perfect balace between a true blade and a forged cavity back...traditional look, great feel, and total playability. They definitely set me back some serious dough, but they were absolutely worth every penny!!!

re Big Bertha Irons, I think the quality and value is there as long as you like the club design. Look at the Ping game improvement clubs also.
If its been a long time since you've bought irons, there are so many possibilities. I tend to favor slightly used clubs from Golf Club Exchange much less risk than e-Bay. There is also a used club site on-line that focuses only on Callaways.

Thanks for the site. When looking at the site, what condition should I be looking for? No lower than very good, or what?

Sellers used to post how many rounds the sticks have been played. That is probably going to be the best indicator. They also have guidelines as to how to list the condition. Read up on their guidelines and decide how much wear you can tolerate. I ordered a set that were listed as used about 10 rounds, and when I got them they looked like they were new from a pro shop. Some even still had the plastic shrink wrap on the head and grips. Over 50 rounds they are probably really used, but the grooves should be in decent shape.
Just saw you carded a 38 for 9 holes. Are you sure you need Big Berthas? Based on that info and the implied scoring potential, check out the X-18s. They are solid sticks and will be between blades and game improvement like the Berthas.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking around for X-18s and X-20s. I actually have an X-14 Steelhead that I enjoy, so I think I'll like the X-18s and X-20s.
Is it weird that I prefer steel to graphite . It's not like my swing is so fast that graphite bends, I just don't like the feel. I like the feel of the extra weight of steel.

Not weird at all. My swing speed has undoubtedly decreased dramatically from my younger days, but I still prefer the feel of my old, steel-shafted Wilson Staff Tour Blades. I've tried many "game-improvement" irons and shaft combos, but I always go back to the tour blades, for the feel. Now, drivers and fairway woods are another matter.

Hey, they're less expensive too! Callaway's with steel seem to be $200 less on average than with graphite.

Callaway X16 irons, Big Bertha Driver, 3 and 7 wood also. Odyssey two-ball putter. Was fitted at the Callaway factory in Carlsbad, CA. Was a first class fitting. Will go back next year to recheck the fit. Will buy Callaway again next time.

I have a Taylormade 300Ti 10.5 driver (stiff), Callaway X-14 Steelhead irons (steel shaft), Wilson Ultra 5W and 3W, Foxbat SW (which I really like) and a Con-Sole putter (which I need to change soon).

although the new Titleist drivers look sick (especially the 909 D3) I think I may pick up the 907 D2 with a great shaft slightly used to save some money. I'm also looking to have my 3 wood bent stronger and pick up a new hybrid...I'm thinking an Adams Idea Pro (or Pro Gold) 24* with a matrix shaft. Then again, I'd like to get an Xbox 360 as well. Factor taht in with wanting certain cigars and I'm flat broke. We'll see how it all pans out but that what I'm looking into. A guy can dream can't he
Here's a nice story: I usually keep my golf bag at the club's warehouse, along with the rest of the players bags. So one day, about a month or so ago I go to find one putter missing (I had two cheapie putters). So of course I make a big fuss of it and they offer to replace the missing club with a new one, so they gave me a Wilson Ultra putter. It's nothing extravagant but it has a much better touch and feel than the lost one. I am liking it more.

I recently tested the new L5V from Cobra and the sole of head (the composite part) cracked. This was a brand new club. I have an old HS9 that I love but its time for a change. The new Titleist(composite) or the Taylormade Limited is going in my bag. You can't go wrong with those.
