I have just found a cigar much better then OpusX - Camacho San Luis y Martinez! I had a box of these beauties (in taste, not appearance) sitting in the humi for about a month and today decided to finally get to them. And let me tell you - forget the OpusX, this cigar has it all and then some!
I enjoy the Opus, but due to its sissy creaminess and flatness I can only smoke it in the morning. But the San Luis y Martinez line has all the X flavors, plus some black coffee tones and that little extra kick I always look forward to. I would not be surprised a bit if Camacho is sneaking some Cuban leaves into this line.
On top of the taste of the cigar:
1. You can find it easily in a cigar shop or online.
2. I got a box of the Camacho San Luis y Martinez No.4 (10 tubes per box) for less than $50.
Kiss my a$$ Fuente, you just got served!
Now I'm going to buy all the boxes my local has before they disappear from the shelves.
That's awesome! Why go through the pain, hassle, and expense to get OpusX if you've found a cheaper and easier-to-get cigar that you like just as much? Way to go.
CAMACHO SAN LUIS Y MARTINEZ CIGARS Handmade HON Wrapper: UNKNOWN Binder: UNKNOWN Filler: UNKNOWN Full Bodied
The San Luis y Martinez line was designed by the Eiroa family to replicate as close as possible, the cigars that were formerly made in Cuba’s most famous district. The family has been so zealous in guarding the recipe for the makeup of these cigars that we have no information on the make-up of these cigars. All we can tell you is that these are heavy bodied, with immense amounts of bold billowing smoke from every draw. Sealed in stay fresh glass tubes to maintain their original flavor and essential oils, these marvelous smokes need no special care to be ready for a celebratory evening.
Weird, I got the box last time I was in Detroit from a place called "JRDetroit". Since JRcigars.com doesn't list stores in Detroit, I assumed it was just a sleezy way to attract customers Maybe it's some kind of outlet or franchise...But I did see them in the JRCigars catalog initially.
Anyhow, I am going to a local shop Monday and if they don't have it, jrcigars.com here I come

Well, that's reassuring news. It's a well-known fact that cigarmakers reserve their very finest creations to be sold at a razor-thin markup and minimal profit margin in massive quantities by gigantic internet retailers.

I'm very happy to hear you found a cigar that you like more than Opus X. A lower price point makes this even better for you. That being said, I highly doubt the majority of cigar aficianado's will feel the same way. I feel the Opus X line is overpriced but not overrated. I like a lot of Camacho's line of cigars but I can't put them in the same class as the Opus X. Of course this is JMHO.
Well, I wouldn't put the rest of the Camachos to the Opus, but I will match them with the rest of the AF's lines any day of the week. And I had no expectations from San Luis y Martinez (that's why they "rested" in the humi for a while), but I am glad I found a cigar I feel is better than the Opus.
And it's not the price of the X that bothers me (although any cigar over $3 is grossly overpriced, compared to costs), but the limit per customer Fuente purposly created with the supply.
But I am a happy camper now and advise evryone to give the San Luis y Martinez a shot, especially if you've always thought that Opus is missing the strenght of a good cigar.
Extensioncord - "cigarmakers reserve their very finest creations to be sold at a razor-thin markup and minimal profit margin in massive quantities by gigantic internet retailers." - Amen!
hey atlrus...would you be interested in doing a trade for 1 or 2 of these? I don't know if I want to purchase a box of these because I've never tried them and I can't find any place that I can just buy them in singles...email is in my profile if you're interested

I'm unsure why you would compare this to the Opus X. With the Opus being a Dominican puro and we should assume that the Camacho is of Honduran tobacco, it does not fit the same catagory. Opus X has some good power but it's ballanced with flavor. It is complex and is a great cigar to train your palet on the different nuences of the tobacco. There are plenty of cigars that are strong just for the sake of stregnth and Camacho has made some of these. I've made it a habit not to compare cigars produced in different countries against each other. CC's being a perfect example. You cannot compare Cuban tobacco with say Dominican tobacco. A totaly different flavor profile. Sometimes I'm in the mood for the rich, powerfull and earthy taste of a CC Partagas and sometims I'm in the mood for the sweet spicy flavor of a good Cameroon wrapped cigar. Now a good thing you may have stumbled upon is a great bargain for Camacho lovers. A good diversion to their higher end smokes. I'm glad you found a bargain brand you like. Thats the important thing, not the comparative messure..
