A good friend of mine has a dilemma. He's started enjoying cigars, but the reason he started enjoying them is because his first one is was a Padron Anniversario (not sure which series). He's now desperately looking for a less expensive cigar which at least reminds him of the Padron. Anybody have any suggestions?

Wink Man, that's a pretty tall order. Nice to be spoiled by your first experience.

I don't know how inexpensive your friend wants to go, but I'd recommend the La Aurora Preferido Robusto...around $150 a box, it is a delicious cigar at about half to 2/3 the price of the Ani's.

La Gloria Cubana in Miami also makes a Selectos de Lujo line which is nice, around the same range or less.

The Camacho Negro, available only through JR's, is very very close to a Padron any. CLosest I have had anyways. It is also hailed as a Padron any "knock off"... Damn good cigar anyway you cut it imho, and way way cheaper.

Giggidy, giggidy... ALRIGHT!!!

This is an interesting thread. I too am hooked on the 1926 Anni. robustos. A '64 will do in a pinch, but the '26 is my favorite. I love both the maduro and nat.

Keep the suggestions coming. I'm going to go ahead and try the possible replacement killers, but I bet I will always have a yearning for the real deal.

TNT cigars makes the Padron Anniversary Alternative. They are supposed to taste very close to the real ones.
I myself am trying to find more out about these Padrn Altrnatives that TNT cigars is selling. Does anyone in here have any reviews on this particular cigar? I am interested in the Maduro.

The closest cheapie to a PAM is the Gispert Maduro. Of course, when I say "closest" in this case it's kind of like asking what's the closest lookalike to Claudia Schiffer in a homeless shelter. Still, the Gispert Maduro has a similar trunk press, similar-tasting wrapper and a decent filler blend. Worth a try.

LOL @ extensioncord... and... finding the closest look-alike Claudia Schiffer in a homeless shelter still would be easier than finding taste-alike ...in the homeless shelter..... Big Grin

It's only expensive when you can't afford it...

But if you cant, try some of the online cigar auctions. I just purchased a 5 pack gift box of 1964s' for way under msrp or catalog price..

No matter what you smoke. There you are...

The Padron 2000 is my go-to cigar at just over $3 a stick. Also have become enamered with the Don Pepin Garcia Invicto (robusto) which I can pick up 5-packs for $20.

There is a man who franchises one of the Tinder Box stores, by the last name of Aiello, who has his own blend that he sells called the Aiello, which tastes EXACTLY like the Padron 64

OMG Big Grin

Dare I ask if the Vision has improved with age? Does it taste like a PAM?

I know I'm a pup on these forums, but I think advocating the purchase of rip-off brands that even use the name of the company they are ripping off in their names is below the class I associate with CA Magazine/their forums. Now I am interested in any cigar that has a similar taste, but does not advertise themselves as such at a cheaper price. Like RP Vintage smokes...anyone that's been around long enough knows who he is trying to compete with, but I think he's fair about it.

Padron 2000, best bang for the buck out there.

Your not going to come any closer to the Annivisario than that for even twice the price of a 2000
