maybe this is a dumb question but, if i had a cigar out of a humidor for like 8 months and i put it back in for a while, will it be ok to smoke? or is it ruined? what is the amount of time a cigar can stay out of a humidor before it gets too dry?
You might be able to save it. Put it back in the humidor and forget about it for at least 6 months! At this point you've got nothing to lose! Check the feel of it after a few months to see if it's heading in the right direction!

Best chance of attempting to save it is to re-humidify slowly. Start with bringing it up to a humidity level of about 50% and work your way up from there a few percent at a time. Putting a dry cigar in a 70% environment has a good chance of bursting its wrapper and ruining any chance of survival.
I had a box of cigars that I had forgotten about in that situation. Was able to save 19 of 20 with the above method. Flashman is right, however... it may not taste the same due to the loss of oils.
Good luck!

Or just trash it and chalk the loss up as a learning experience. As a general rule, if the time it takes to save one given its price does not equal the same ratio of the time I give my employer for an equivalent time period of work for said amount of monetary funds then I trash it. Even then, I usually just trash it cause I'm lazy that way.
