Those are made in the Dominican Republic and there is no Jamaican tobacco used. At one time they were made in Jamaica, along with Macanudo, Royal Jamaica, Temple Hall, etc. The Jamaican cigar industry is basically non-existent now except for a few small producers. Labor disputes and hurricanes wiped it out. General Cigar was the major player down there and they bailed out many years ago.
There was nothing ever really distinctive about Jamaican cigars to begin with since the filler tobaccos came from the DR and Mexico for most of the brands produced there by General Cigar.
I've smoked the Jamaican and Dominican versions of Macanudo, Temple Hall and Royal Jamaica -- truth be told, the quality on the DR stuff was better and the flavor was the same. Royal Jamaica isn't produced anymore in its original form but Macanudo and Temple Hall are so you can always try those if you're still interested for some reason. I've never tried JR's Special Jamaicans but word has it they are very decent for the money.
If what you're after is a distinctive smoking experience, ask your tobacconist for some "puros" -- brands that are made of tobacco from a single country. Tatuaje, Fuente Opus X, CAO Vision and Punch Gran Puro are a few examples. And, of course, any Cuban cigar.

After all, why would anyone in their right mind assume that "Special Jamaicans" are actually made in Jamaica? I can't imagine what would give anyone that impression.
There are still a couple of small brands made in Jamaica, and both say they have some Jamaican tobacco inside. Barrington House cigars are sold in the United States in limited quantities. Adduci Jamaican Cigars are supposed to be coming to the states, but I haven't seen them yet. I know you can buy Adducis in Jamaica, and I think you can buy Barrington House.

Hi While I have moved on in my taste profile from Mac. ,I take exception to the idea that the Mac. Dom. cigars are better. Back then, before I started smoking a man's cigar ;-),I enjoyed Jam. Mac's and old Jamaicans(Mac. Seconds). When Mac. became produced in Dom. Rep. the flavor profile changed and I longed for the Jamaican cigars. Now it does not matter (DL 700,Serie R #7,name your La Flor,Pepin,,Padron,Perdomo, etc. are the types of cigars I smoke today), but back then I looked far and wide for the last boxes of Mac. Jam. I could get a hold of. Q
