Tato Pete is on a roll. Savona just gave me a Tatie Havana Cazadores that is a big mouthful. The lonsdale size was powerful, rich and flavor packed with loads of espresso and tobacco character. And it's an elegant size too. Get some if you can. I would say it's 90 points or more in my book.

This is the "red band" version, right? I've had the torpedo in this line so far and it's a great smoke for $8...less in-your-face than the regular Tatuaje line (and certainly FAR less in-your-face than ther Cojonu) but for me it was relatively mellow, toasty and straightforward. For an extra $3 I'll go for the Miami-made line but the Havana series is very nice. Actually, come to think of it, if I'm spending $8 or less I'll go with the Don Pepin Garcia blue band. Now there's a cigar that's great now and will only get better with age...the last batch I had was stamped Jan 07 on the box so they are only beginning to show their potential. Worth aging.
First off, hello, as this is my very first post. I have enjoyed the original Tatuaje line immensely, and the Noella is one of my favorite NC's. I have been hesistant to try the red bands due to concerns over quality control. How much of a role does Don Pepin Garcia have in overseeing this factory?

Hi guys. First off the Havana Cazadore is not a red-band Tatuaje, but one of the originals (brown band). It's made in the Miami factory.
James is here in my office, still puffing on the Cazadore. (I think he likes it.) The two of us were in the new Nicaraguan factory a few weeks ago, and I'd say Don Pepin has a lot of control overseeing that factory, as he owns it. His son Jaime was there when we visited, and he said his father is there very often. Nice factory, with impressive construction.
By the way, Suckling has all the luck. He's smoking the Tatuaje while I'm smoking cigar no. 23, which I'm not enjoying very much at all. It's dry and leafy.

Hard to keep up, especially since the Havana IV line doesn't include a lonsdale but the regular Tatuaje line does -- except it's called the Havana Cazadore.
I've been lobbying my local B&M to devote one whole humidor cabinet to DPG cigars -- so far, I've nooged them into brining in Tat, Tat Havana IV, Padilla Miami, Padilla 1932 and the DPG blue, white and black banded cigars. If I can get them to bring in Cabiguan it'll almost be a clean sweep. (DPG can keep the Old Henry.)
I just looked them up on the internet site I buy from and they have them in stock. I am placing my order today and see what all the excitement is about. I am a big fan of the brown ban Taties. So look forward to getting my hands on these. I also can't wait to try them again with some age on them.

Holts has them. My local B&M has them too (along with DPG and 8&11) and I'm sure they'd accommodate a mail order provided it was for a reasonable amount of sticks. Email me if you want the info.

Several internet sites have good samplers of the brown label Tat for around $50. You may want to look at that as an option.

I know I sound like a broken record saying this, but while that Tat's are great now, they're astounding with even a little age on them.
I had a few SW reservas tucked away for only about six or seven months and the diffence made by even that miniscule amount of aging time is incredible.

"Cuban seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and Cuba. The wrapper would be from Cuba. The binder leaves would be from Nicaragua. For the ligero tobacco in the filler, he would use two types, one from Esteli and the other from Jalapa in Nicaragua. The other filler components, seco and viso, would come from Cuba, the former from Villa Clara, the latter from Pinar del Rio. That Cigar, he says with pride, would score 100 points." -Don Pepin Garcia
