I had the chance to smoke both, on two successive days, thanks to V.O.
I was very excited to try these, since they're my first RPs and I was very eager to try them.
The Old Worlde Reserve was smoked yesterday, on the beach with friends. The cigar, prelit, smells wonderfully sweet. The construction is great and you just feel you want to eat it.
When lit, I am afraid things weren't that pretty. First of all, I noticed the stick overheated a lot. I mean, A LOT. I could feel it's heat transferred from the lit foot to around the band. First, it smoked pretty good, with tastes of coffee, but then it started to burn very uneven, despite all my tries to correct the light.
Around the second half, things started getting really ugly. I don't know what happened, but apparently there was a like a tunnel in the cigar that wasn't filled with tobacco, which lead to me drawing a lot of air instead of smoke, air which tasted REALLY BAD. I couldn't stand it, and taking a puff, instead of being a pleasure, became like a duty I want to avoid. I am afraid at that point I had to put it down, half smoked, and bury it sadly in the beach sand.
Today, I was watching the Cairo football derby (soccer) between Ahly and Zamalek with some friends in a cafe, and I decided to fire up the RP Vintage 1990. I was very hesitated, I even took a Bolivar Beliscos Finos with me in case the RP turned like it's brother yesterday and I had to put it down, but it turned out my worries weren't in it's place.
The cigar, pre lit, agains smelled sweet and chocolaty. The box pressed construction had a very nice feeling in the mouth and all in all it looked perfect to light. I lit, praying, and I was amazed. The cigar was just awesome. Every single puff I took was tasty as hell. From coffee to nuts to roasty tastes it was a wonderful experience. Not a single bad puff, not a single bitter puff even with double puffs. It burned perfectly from foot to nub, and was really a cigar you wouldn't want to put down. I had to put it down though, because I couldn't stand my mouth and lips getting burned anymore even with using a toothpick to hold it with.
It was a great experience today, I thank V.O. for both sticks.

Give Olde World Reserve another try...it is one of my favorite NCs and I have never had any issues like you mentioned...you probably just got a bad one.

I have found that the Olde Worlds smoke better with some time on them. I had the same burn issues with the first ones that I tried so I gave them some time to rest and now they are a pretty good smoke.

lucky which olde world reserve did you have? The corojo or the maduro? I think both are excellent cigars but corojo have a richer flavor. You might have had a bad stick as these are one of the few RPs that I smoke

I will go with thaterp on this one. If you liked the 1990, then you should try the 1992. I also like the 92 WAY more than the 90. The Olde World Reserve is actually one of my least favorite Rocky Patels. I think they are overpriced, with no complexity, and the flavors that it does have, are not that good. I totally agree with CA, that the cigar tastes like Pencil Lead.

I am a fan of most of the entire Rocky Patel line and if you read the Today's smoke thread I can often be found to have enjoyed at least one RP cigar each day that I post.
good thing there are many cigars for everyone to choose from. It's funny that some hates the smoke that others can't live without. For me, I do not enjoy most of the RP line, they seem to have a strange flavor (bitterness in many) that I cannot enjoy. However, the vintage lines and Olde world reserve are the exceptions, I still have a summer blend that I have yet to try so I will hold my judgement on that.

I've never had any problems that were described with the OWR. I've probably smoked around 40-50 of these sticks in both wrappers and various sizes. I would agree with mbflash80, and guess that you got a bad stick. How long did you allow this stick to rest after you received it?
I recently picked up a single OWR with a connecticut wrapper off cigarbid. I did not even realize there was one with a connecticut wrapper, but I guess it's a limited production like the Edge sumatra. Don't mean to thread jack, but if anyone has tried one of these, let me know what you thought of it.

I'm not a fan of conneticut wrappers, but if you had the chance to post a quick review when you light it up...that would be great!
For anyone that likes OWR (or even Decade for that matter)...you really should try the "X-Outs" that are available on CigarsInternational...the "Liga C" is OWR and the "Liga D" is decade. They are the same Cigars without the fancy wrappers and packaging...and less than 4 bucks a stick. Make for a great everyday smoke.

I really like the OWR...I beleive you just had a bad stick....try another one, but this time try one with some resting age.
The OWR Maduro is best with coffee. Man, it is a combo made in heaven. Have a really good cup of great coffee (not the over-roasted Starbucks stuff) You will find that the coffee compliments the coffee adn chocolate flavors.
The OWR is also good with a nice glass of wine or a really nice port. Again, the wine and the chocolate/coffee in the OWR really pair well together.

Dude check it out...I am not a fan of the salesmanship of this place but they do have some solid deals...

Sounds good. I just had a Decade Torp and loved it. Not a 95 but it was a really enjoyable cigar. Well worth it.

oh I checked but since they don't list which is which how do you know for sure that the C is the OWR and D is the decade? But thank you telling me that I just wanted to make sure before I order some

I received both wrappers of Olde World in a sampler, and I was just crazy about their appearance and prelight aroma. I had to light one up, and both ended up being disappointing. Their burn was crooked and the flavor wasn't what I had anticipated. Also, they both went out on numerous occasions.
The RP DECADE, though, is one of the best NCs around, in my opinion.

Vinzar, did you light them up right after you received them? if that was the case then that would explain the bad burn and lighting problems. You should let them rest in your humidor for at least two weeks before lighting them up.

I figured it out by the sizes and the corjo and maduro options...no other RPs come in those sizes/wrapper...I was smoking them at 8 bucks a piece before I found these.
