I was at JR's in DC today. Seems they've started selling five-packs of many popular brands at @ 40% off regular price. I grabbed packs of HdM Excalibur 1066 Camaroon and Montecristo Buena Fortuna (corona sized). Combined, less than $35. When did this become such a popular offering? I like it. Any one else know about this trend?

Yes, JR's has been doing this for quite some time. 5 packs are a trend in the cigar industry. Many companies offer them. It's quite common now.

I've seen the boxes, but JR's is doing Zip-lock bags. Thanks.

Zip lock bags are pretty standard. Cigarbid is probably the biggest as far as 5 packs go.

Great way to try different sticks without a box commitment.

I'm planning on having one tonight, so I'll weigh in with my opinion on them later.

BTW, really like the HdM 1066. Solid smoke, a touch bitter toward the end. It was a tad heavy for the morning walk to the subway, but would have been perfect with a cup of coffee or glass of tempranillo.

How is that store? Drive by it every couple of weeks on my way into visit DOC and have been meaning to stop. Worth it??

I used to work in the building above JRs and would go several times a week. It's been a few years since I worked there, but the guys in the shop were always nice and helpful. Last time I stopped in (about a month ago) I still found them friendly and helpful. Selection is pretty good and price is on par with Georgetown Tobacco or Old Virginia, depending on what you get of course.

Cheers!

+1 to TMF. Broad selection (but they don't carry my Camachos, unfortunately) good prices, and they seem to like working there. It's worth dropping by, for sure.
