I picked up a Torano sampler (which included 4 1916s) over a year ago at cbid, and each those smokes are really fantastic for the price, especially the Exodus Gold and Virtuosos.

You might look into Camacho Select. Similar in concept -- Cameroon wrapper over stronger Nicaraguan filler -- but with more finesse and flavor than the Oliva. More expensive, too, but...I guess sometimes you get what you pay for.[/QUOTE]

thanks man. I read this and went to the b/m looking for it. All they had was the torpedo and I didnt want all that in case I didnt like it. I did buy the 1916 and have to say this:
I dont know if what I smoked was the new blend as talked about early in this posting BUT it tasted very, very, much like the Oliva G AND I did not taste any of that honduran taste or what I relate to the taste of honduran tobacco. (This would be from my experience with punch/torano exodus and even my memory of my first 1916) It tasted Very nicaraguan and Very good. The aroma was that fantastic cameroon aroma, the flavor kept you coming back for more. For what the price is this could be my cameroon smoke. I do want to try the Camacho before making that choice though. I know CAO and AF make their cameroon as well.

I've had the 1916, and it's a good straightforward smoke. It's not particularly exciting, but a good smoke nevertheless.

The Exodus 1959 is a much better blend - I got a box of those after trying a few. The Casa Torano is also pretty good.

I'll agree with Steve - Torano and Oliva are great smokes for the price. You really can't go wrong with either of them for a good, solid, everyday smoke.

So many cigars, so little time...

This is an old thread, but had to offer my two cents. Like Steve, I had not smoked Torano in a few years. This thread led me to a five-pack of the 1916. Very pleased with the draw and flavor. I used to like the mild Upmann Vintage Cameroon, but I think 1916 moves to the head of my affordable cameroons. Next up is the 1959s. Thanks for the headsup, guys
