They say that in life it's always good to have a backup plan. This definately applies when smoking in the spa. I am relativly new to smoking so basicly i am on a mission to try everything i can get my hands on to see what's out there and to define my taste.
Unfortunately this can lead to some not so great smoking experiences. But once your in the spa all nice and warm, having a bad smoke in hand can really bring you down. SO . . i always bring a back up smoke that i know and love. If the test stick turns out to be crappy . . i just bail and move on to something i know will satisfy.
This backup plan has served me well until this past weekend. The test smoke was a Sancho Panza Connecticut Glorioso. It's a mild smoke so i figured that if it was a keeper i would still have 'room' to smoke my backup. The backup was my old friend Ashton Aged Maduro (just typing that makes me happy)
Well maybe i don't have to tell you but to me, the SP was a doggy dog. No smoke, not much aroma, and the flavor was that dry, earthy, dirty, too spicy thing that makes it impossible for me to smoke . . espcially in a mild cigar.
So no problem right? i bailed about 2/3 the way through, rested a bit had something to drink and then reached for my Ashton.
What happened next was unexpected. The SP had toasted my mouth in tastebuds in such a way that the Ashton tasted like crap!!! i was really bummed
so i'm just wondering . . you guys that have been smoking for years, is this just a rookie mistake? does this happen allot? i've done tha backup thing successfully many times before this. are there certain types of smokes that can follow others?
would love to know everyones experience in this area . . in the spa or out

I know the feeling I have been shunned from the house as well. lol
Sup KFA, nice to see good old fashioned determinism at play Now if I may kindly offer a suggestion... How about just remove the date from this Soakin & Smokin subject line (or pick from one of the others you created) and just keep updating the same thread for each day you soak & smoke? That way you no one will think you're stepping on Doc's toes. Plus you get to watch the selected thread grow and prosper.

Not at all. High umidity is not good for cigars. Your cigars may be getting to humid to fast. This can cause a bitter, sour taste and also poor burn.

KFA, I am giving you correct advice. Cigars are not recomended to smoke in a hot tub or steam bath or what have you. The rise in the humidity will tarnish the burn, draw and flavor.
I hear you . . . and i believe you. but you have to take into account that the spa is outside and the humidity about . . oh 2' above the water . . off the edge of the spa, on a day where the ambient humidity is normal . . is not really that high. i actually measyred it at various times and never got a reading higher than 60% . . now if the spa were in an encolsed space then i would start to worry. I haven't had any bad experiences in general smoking in the spa . . just that 'cross pollenation" thing i discribed above
thanks for chiming in
