I do hope that I am posting this in the right area. I am fairly new Cigar smoker and could use some advice on some good Cigars. At present I smoke Vieux Carre Rothchild from the New Orleans Cigar Factory and Red Dot Cohiba. Since I put in a new deck at my house I have been smoking more than normal and need to get a some more. So I thought it might be a chance for me to branch out a try some different cigars. So any advice on some great cigars that normally be purchased locally or on the internet would be nice.
Hi, and welcome to the forums. You'll probably get lots of different suggestions, but that's great as I personally find it a blast trying lots of different smokes and discovering what I like and don't like. My personal everyday smokes are anything by Oliva, and Padron.
Howdy and welcome! You have come to the right place for opinions, we have lots of them! Let us know where you are near, odds are good someone knows a local place. Online: JRs, Holt, or if you like auctions, CigarBid. I like Ashton (where I got my cigar start), Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, Padron and several of CAO for everyday stuff. Enjoy!
Check out Doc's "tonight's smoke" thread each night in the Cigar Talk forum, and you'll see what some folks are enjoying. Also, a couple of online "ratings" sites for you to peruse:
I agree with jmoore04. CAO makes a good everyday cigar. I usually have some CAO Gold coronas (CA rated 88), and Italia Novellas (CA rated 90) in my humidor. I'm also partial to Arturo Fuente's Hemingway line, but these are a little more difficult to find since they are released only a couple times a year. Local shops will usually have them in stock, but online stores sell out quickly. The Fuente family has their own retail website, tampasweethearts.com, so you can always get them right from the source. My Hemingway favs are the Bestseller and the Classic. Other cigars worth trying are Griffin, Davidoff, Ashton and La Gloria Cubana, and Padilla 8/11. I’ve recently gave the Padilla 8/11 corona a test drive to decide whether or not to add it to my humidor. After I smoked the first half inch or so, I had already decided that it would get added to my rotation. Then I got out some Knob Creek bourbon and whoa nelly! I was in heaven. It’s been 10 years or so since I’ve smoked a Padron, but I know a ton of people that swear by them. In addition to the cigar sites previously listed, I have also had good luck with Famous Smokeshop, and SeriousCigars.com. CigarBid.com is a good place to save a few bucks.
There are a lot of good cigars out there and I'm sure anything your local tobacconist reccomends will be good but personally I think you can't go wrong with a Padron Series 1964 and although there's a lot of hype around Fuente Opus X they are still good and would get a reccomendation from me. Also I think C.A.O. 1998s are good but hey what do I know. But like I said earlier if you go to a nice cigar shop they will be more than happy to help you find what fits your criteria for a great cigar.
"Eating and sleeping are the only activities that should be allowed to interrupt a man's enjoyment of his cigar." -- Mark Twain
I would reccomend a looking at the Sampler Packs in 3,5, and 10 from a local shop or via some of the internet sites the folks here use on a regular basis. Also, try a few of these:
Punch Rare Corojo Perdomo pretty much any of them Montecristo white label Romeo and Julieta Reserve Real (new to market(??) and not bad) La Aurora
When I started sampling I kept my range between $4.00 and $10.00 as I worked through different ones. I still do that today and only on occasion do I purhcase a full cabinet of 25..

I've just started smoking cigars myself within the past 2 months or so, but have smoked quite a few different brands. So far some of my faves have been:
Ashton (what I started on) Padron (Can't go wrong for price and taste) Camacho (more full bodied) Avo
Tried a Coronado by La Flor today and it was definetly worth trying out.
