This might be off topic but I don't know. If it is this can be deleted. Can anyone share with me their experience with using a cigar caddy to carry their cigars with whilst traveling? I just picked one up and I am impressed with it, but wonder about the foam smell, mixing in with the cigars. Also, how often does one need to hydrate the disk on average?

Thanks!
Andy

I like the x-treme travel humidor line. I have 2 myself (A 50 count and a 30 count) and love every second of them.

Basically the same concept but a different brand. I have never had a problem with the foam smell or anything happening to my precious cargo!

I think I check the disk every 2 weeks to be on the safe side (but it also depends on how often you open them), but that is more because I have some pretty special sticks in them right now. I'm kind overflowing at the moment!

I have to ask because I have never used one before, but can these be for the occassional traveler too? I prefer to store long term in my fridgi, but what about the random trips? Can you let the element dry out and start all over the next time you go on a trip? What humidification element is used? How well does it keep your cigars?

I have cigars in mine since day one w/ no problems. It utilizes a floral foam disk in the lid (needs to be filled every couple weeks) to keep humidity. I cannot speak about letting it dry out and use it occasionally, because I have never done so.

If you are looking for an extra storage container, they are great. I put a calibrated digital humidistat inside and it read 69/70RH but the temp goes up down due to outside temp.

It was spot on...

I love it! Plus they never get hurt, even if you check the "football" as I call it.

I have an 8 count cigar trek and love it. It's extremely durable. I don't use any humidification device since I use it for very short term storage (golf course or my folks for the day) and it being air tight.

I don't understand how the x-treme travel cases can be used all the time if they are airtight. Don't you need some air to circulate? Or do you just open them up every few days?

I always have it with me (work/car/B&M) so it gets opened a couple times per week. I would agree with you, but in my case I guess it works itself out.

Yes! Any container that is air tight is not good for prolonged storage of cigars. The cigars need to breath and by opening the container on occassion you can exchange the air even if it is briefly it will be enough. I know that much, but just wanted some more first hand input on how well these things actually work. I take a couple of vacations a year and usually end up purchasing cigars at the nearest B&M, but it would be nice to know that I can enjoy the cigars I want to, and not be at the mercy of a unfamiliar B&M's inventory! I use an Otterbox given to me by my daughter about five years ago. She bought it at a cigar shop, but it is more a sporting goods item. Air and water tight, and does an excellent job.
